The nephew of a Vicksburg man charged with capital murder in the death of a 69-year-old woman was set to be released Thursday afternoon.

Vicksburg Police Capt. Sandra Williams said no charges “would be filed at this time” against 20-year-old Akeem McCloud, whose uncle was charged Wednesday with capital murder and seven other counts in the abduction and death of Sharen Wilson.

Police say Rafael McCloud, 33, 513 Lynn St., stalked, attacked, tied up and raped Wilson before taking her to the abandoned Kuhn Memorial Hospital and shooting her in the head with a stolen gun.

Later he attempted to burn down Wilson’s home on Drummond Street, Williams has said.

“We worked extremely hard trying to find any shred of information that would link him (Akeem McCloud) to these horrible acts,” Williams said. “However, we found nothing linking him to the crimes.”

Wilson’s family members were notified of the impending release Thursday, Williams said.
