St. Aloysius sweeps Red Carpet Swim Meet

Connor Clark and Matthew Copes each won an individual event and were part of a winning relay team to lead the St. Aloysius Flashes to a clean sweep of their team competitions at the Red Carpet Swim Meet Tuesday at City Pool.

The Flashes beat Brandon 82-72; Warren Central 95-27; and Vicksburg High 93-34 to win the boys’ championship. The four teams competed at the same time, but their finishes were scored as separate dual meets against each other.

Clark won the 100-yard backstroke and was part of the winning 200-yard medley relay team. Copes won the 100 freestyle and was on the winning 400 freestyle relay. Tommy Martin also won the 200 freestyle and Charlie Martin the 100 breaststroke.

In the other boys’ dual meets, Vicksburg beat Warren Central 46-40 and lost 93-37 to Brandon; and Brandon beat Warren Central 91-35.

In the girls’ meet, Katelyn Brock scored first-place finishes in the 200 freestyle, 400 freestyle relay and 200 freestyle relay to lead St. Al to victories in two of its three dual meets.

St. Al beat Warren Central 76-71 and Vicksburg 84.5-43.5, but lost to Brandon 77-73.

In the other girls’ dual meets, Brandon beat Warren Central 81-73 and Vicksburg 95-43; and Warren Central beat Vicksburg 89-45.

St. Al’s Katie Martin finished first in the 200-yard individual medley, the 100 breaststroke and was on the winning 200 freestyle relay team with Brock, Victoria Gong and Adrienne Eckstein.

Eckstein also was on the winning 400 freestyle relay team and won the 500 freestyle.

Warren Central’s Carley Copelin won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 27.55 seconds, and the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1 minute, 1.70 seconds.

Vicksburg’s Abrina Emerson finished second in the 50 freestyle.
