Warren County sheriff’s deputies are seeking information about a rash of weekend vandalisms in Oak Park Subdivision that included four auto burglaries and damage to the driver’s side windows on 10 vehicles.

Sheriff Martin Pace said the incidents occurred between Saturday and Sunday morning.

“We believe it occurred sometime after midnight and into the early morning hours of Sunday,” he said.

Pace said the four burglarized vehicles all had unlocked doors. Reported stolen were a single-shot shotgun, and .38-caliber handgun, clothing and a small amount money.

“The other 10 cars had their windows shattered. There were items inside the vehicles, but they weren’t touched,” Pace said. “It was like the people just wanted to vandalize the vehicles out of sheer meanness.”

He said anyone with information on the vandalism should call Central Mississippi Crime Stoppers at 601-355-TIPS (8477) or 1-866-481-8477.

In another matter, a Warren County man was wounded after pistol being cleaned by another man went off and shot him in the leg at a home in the 2800 block of Eagle Lakeshore Road, Pace said.

Austin Bond, 22, was in the process of cleaning a Glock 9mm semi-automatic handgun when it went off with the bullet striking Richard Mann, 35, in the leg. He was taken to Merit Health River Region, where he was treated and released.

“Bond had removed the magazine from the gun, but did not clear the chamber,” Pace said. “Under our protocol, all wounds from firearms are reported to District Attorney’s Office. At this time, from the evidence, the shooting appears to be accidental and no charges have been filed.”
