HATTIESBURG David L. Henley died Tuesday, March 12, 2002, at Wesley Health Center in Hattiesburg. He was 55.

Mr. Henley was co-manager of Kmart.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Hinkle Henley of Hattiesburg; his mother, Laverne Henley of Hattiesburg; one son, Jason Henley of Hattiesburg; a stepson, Chris Wann of Hattiesburg; a daughter, Hilary Henley of Laurel; one stepdaughter, Cindy Whitehead of Vicksburg; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Episcopal Church of the Ascension in Hattiesburg. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 until 9 p.m. Thursday at Hulett-Winstead Funeral Home in Hattiesburg and from noon Friday until the service at the church.

Memorials may be made to the Episcopal Church of the Ascension.

WILLIAM GORDON KIRKMAN

STARKVILLE William Gordon Kirkman died Sunday, March 10, 2002, at his home in Starkville. He was 65.

Mr. Kirkman was born in Vicksburg and was a member of Artesia Baptist Church. A cattleman, he was the retired owner of Mitchell’s Small Engine. He was a member of Farm Bureau and the Mississippi Cattleman’s Association.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Kirkman of Starkville; three daughters, Elizabeth Peacock of Mathiston, Jennifer Kirkman of Starkville and Isla Morton of West Point; two sons, Bill Kirkman of Weir and David Kirkman of Mathiston; his mother, Ruby Kirkman of Searcy, Ark.; a brother, Ira Kirkman of Searcy; and 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Oktibbeha Memorial Park with the Rev. Ben Yarber officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Welch Funeral Home of Starkville.

Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.

VIRGIE POLAN LOWE

Services for Virgie Polan Lowe will be at 2 p.m. today at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church with the Rev. Peter Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. today until the service at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home. Trisagion prayers will be at 2 p.m.

Mrs. Lowe died Monday, March 11, 2002, at River Region Medical Center. She was 85.

A native of Delhi, La., Mrs. Lowe had lived in Vicksburg for more than 40 years. She was a licensed practical nurse for Vicksburg Hospital for 25 years. She was a member of St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew J. Lowe; her parents, Crawford Polan and Hazel Jackson; three brothers, Huey Polan, Garlon Polan and Donnie Polan; and two sisters, Winnie Lowe and Margarite Thornhill.

She is survived by two sons, Andrew C. Lowe of Satsuma, Fla., and Bobby C. Lowe of Chattanooga, Tenn.; her daughter, Lila L. Boolos of Vicksburg; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and other relatives, including Mickey N. Lowe of Shreveport.

Pallbearers will be Todd Boolos, Paul Boolos, Timothy Boolos, Kevin Schultz, Mark Lowe, Marty Lowe, Kevin Lowe and Kurt Lowe.

Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Abraham, Dr. George Abraham. Lee Thomas, Leo Boolos, Davis Boolos and Michael Mayfield.

MELBA PETTWAY ROWLAND

Melba Pettway Rowland died Monday, March 11, 2002, at River Region Medical Center. She was 95.

Mrs. Rowland was a lifelong resident of Vicksburg and member of Bowmar Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Willis Elbert and Corine Pettway; her husband, S.E. Rowland; two daughters, Carrie Mae Rowland and Thelma Rowland McLaughin; two brothers, Herman Pettway and Willis Pettway; and two sisters, Pat Sutton and Clyde Crapps.

She is survived by a son, Buddy Rowland of Vicksburg; two daughters, Billie Craft of Anderson, S.C., and Ruth Nosser of Vicksburg; and 11 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Green Acres Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. Oliver Ladnier officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Fisher-Riles Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from noon Thursday until the service at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons: Brett Hossley, Chris Hossley, Andrew Sandoz, Mitch Oakes, Brian Oakes, Andy Oakes, Ben Jernigan, Jay Rowland, Wesley Rowland, John Reeder, Zach Rowland, Tyler Townsend, Larry Nosser, Sam Rowland McLaughin, Jay McLaughin, Bubba Rowland, Mark Craft, Larry McLaughin and Sam Reeder.

GEORGIA RAGLAND TOWNSEND

LAKE PROVIDENCE Georgia Ragland Townsend died Monday, March 11, 2002, at her home in Lake Providence. She was 74.

Mrs. Townsend was preceded in death by her husband, L.E. Townsend Jr.; her parents, William Betron Ragland Sr. and Cora Lee Cooper Ragland; and a sister, Raymond Ragland Brown.

She is survived by three daughters, Jan Holt of Lake Providence, Kelly Townsend of Covington, La., and Emily Craig of Irving, Texas; two sons, Lon Townsend of Lubbock, Texas, and Billy Townsend of West Monroe; three brothers, Bill Ragland Jr. of Charlottesville, Va., Bud Ragland of New Roads, La., and Bubby Ragland of Lake Providence; two sisters, Lorraine Wilson of Mandeville, La., and Jeannie Lorren of Covington; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Grace Episcopal Church in Lake Providence with the Rev. Bill Echols officiating. Burial will follow at Providence Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be John Jason Holt, Jarrod Townsend, L.E. Townsend IV, Carson Craig, John Reese, Joshua Griggs and Raymond Ragland Brown.
