MELBA PETTWAY ROWLAND

Services for Melba Pettway Rowland will be at 2 p.m. today at Green Acres Memorial Center with the Rev. Oliver Ladnier officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Fisher-Riles Funeral Home.

Mrs. Rowland died Monday, March 11, 2002, at River Region Medical Center. She was 95.

She was a lifelong resident of Vicksburg and member of Bowmar Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Willis Elbert and Corine Pettway; her husband, S.E. Rowland; two daughters, Carrie Mae Rowland and Thelma Rowland McLaughin; two brothers, Herman Pettway and Willis Pettway; and two sisters, Pat Sutton and Clyde Crapps.

She is survived by a son, Buddy Rowland of Vicksburg; two daughters, Billie Craft of Anderson, S.C., and Ruth Nosser of Vicksburg; and 11 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons: Brett Hossley, Chris Hossley, Andrew Sandoz, Mitch Oakes, Brian Oakes, Andy Oakes, Ben Jernigan, Jeff Jernigan, Jay Rowland, Wesley Rowland, John Reeder, Zach Rowland, Tyler Townsend, Larry Nosser, Sam Rowland McLaughin, Jay McLaughin, Bubba Rowland, Mark Craft, Larry McLaughin, Larry McLaughin and Sam Reeder.

FORREST TADLOCK

MORTON Forrest Tadlock died Sunday, March 10, 2002, at Rankin Medical Center in Brandon. He was 90.

Mr. Tadlock was a longtime resident of Scott County. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Morton where he was in the Adult V men’s Bible class. He was a building contractor for a number of years before retiring.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Tadlock; a daughter, Shirley Tadlock Hollingsworth; and a grandson, Nelson Tadlock.

He is survived by three daughters, Sandy Frunzi of Melford, Del., Jill Errington of Brandon and Rose Mary Pace of Brandon; three sons, Durwood Tadlock of Vicksburg, Dusty Ferguson of Brookhaven and John “Corkey” Tadlock of Brandon; and 15 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Services were Tuesday at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Morton with the Rev. Holmes Carlisle officiating. Burial was at Sims Cemetery.

Pallbearers were grandsons: Hez Hollingsworth, Heath Ferguson, Eli Ferguson, Jason Errington, Christopher Tadlock, Clinton Carraway and Jeffery Pace.

Honorary pallbearers were members of the Adult V men’s Bible class of First Baptist Church of Morton, Jas R. Johnson, Eugene Blackburn, Willis Goldsby, C.L. Gould, Bennett Merchant, Robert D. Rogers, the Rev. W.E. Bass, A.C. Crotwell, Pete Nash, Harold Green, Ben Rogers, Sam Rogers, Maurice Stegall, Jack Stuart, Jimmy Tucker, Ira Q. Weaver and C.O. Walter.

ELMA ROBERTS TIMBS

MOORHEAD Elma Roberts Timbs died Tuesday, March 12, 2002, at Indianola Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was 93.

A planter and a homemaker, Mrs. Timbs was born in Mount Olive. She was a member of Moorhead Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wheeler T. Timbs; her parents, Charles and Dora Runnels Roberts; and a grandson, Daniel W. Timbs Jr.

She is survived by two daughters, Jeanelle Timbs Smith of Greenville and Billie Jean Timbs Smith of Vicksburg; two sons, Wheeler T. Timbs Jr. of Moorhead and Daniel Wheeler Timbs of Sevierville, Tenn.; her sister, Lillie Mae Roberts Walls of New Orleans; and seven grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Services were today at Moorhead Baptist Church with the Revs. Granville Watson and Sean Atkinson officiating. Burial followed at Moorhead Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

SYLVIA DENISE VAUGHN

EDWARDS Sylvia Denise Vaughn died Thursday, March 7, 2002. She was 47.

A native of Picayune, Miss Vaughn was a nurse and a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church.

She was employed at Shady Lawn Nursing Home.

She is survived by four sons, Corey Vaughn and Calvin Vaughn, both of Picayune, Curtis Vaughn of Pontiac, Mich., and Ronald Charles Vaughn of Vicksburg; three sisters, Carolyn Vaughn, Carrie Lee Willis and Thelma Gene Taylor, all of Picayune; five brothers, Chester Vaughn, Mickey Vaughn, Curtis Vaughn, Willie Lee Vaughn and Leonard Vaughn; five grandchildren; and other relatives, including Joe B. Whitehead.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church with the Rev. Borzzell Langham officiating. Burial will follow at Picayune Cemetery under the direction of Brown Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from noon Saturday until the service at the church.

SHIRLEY MAE WILSON

Shirley Mae Wilson died Tuesday, March 12, 2002. She was 85.

She was a member of Morning Star M.B. Church in the Eagle Lake community. She was born in Vicksburg and later moved to Las Vegas, Nev., and returned to Vicksburg in 1994. She was a graduate of Rosa A. Temple High School.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, David and Cornelious Proctor; her brother, Albert Lee Wilson; and a nephew, Calvin Wilson.

She is survived by her parents, the Rev. and Mrs. F.W. Wilson; seven sisters, Bettye Bailey, Julia James, LeVern W. Powell, Dylinda W. Younger and Cynthia Wilson, all of Vicksburg, Dr. Barbara Wilson of Clinton and Cheryl W. Hall of Memphis; five brothers, the Rev. Robert Wilson, the Rev. Flem Wilson Jr. and Herman Wilson, all of Las Vegas, the Rev. Joe Wilson of Seattle, Wash., and Barney Wilson of Vicksburg; and other relatives, including Ann Riles of Las Vegas and John L. Davis of Detroit.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Williams Funeral Home with the Rev. R.L. Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

JAMES WRIGHT JR.

Services for James “709” Wright Jr. will be at 11 a.m. Friday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home with the Rev. Dexter Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Wright died Sunday, March 10, 2002, at his home. He was 55.

He was a member of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Wright Jr. and Everlena Hardy; three brothers, Henry Wright, Willie Wright and Charles Lee Wright; his maternal grandparents, Abe Hardy and Selena Hardy; and his paternal grandparents, Bill Wright and Hattie Wright.

He is survived by a son, Eddie Harris of Vicksburg; two brothers, Joseph Wright and David Wright, both of Vicksburg; and a sister, Hattie Wright of Vicksburg; and other relatives, including Doretha Jordan, Lizzie Washington, Hazel Vaughn, the Rev. F.W. Wilson and the Jordan, Hardy, Vaughn, Gee, Allen, Wilson, Hicks and Woodson families, all of Vicksburg.
