GLADYS ELOISE HALE

PIONEER, La. Gladys Eloise Hale died Monday, March 25, 2002, at Glenwood Regional Medical Center in West Monroe, La. She was 86.

Mrs. Hale was born in Chase, La., and had lived in Pioneer, La., for a number of years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Vinnie and Ava Downs Welch; her husband, Louis William Hale; a son, Steve Hale; one sister, Euna Mae Welch; one brother, V.W. Welch; a granddaughter; and three great-grandchildren.

Survivors include three sons, the Rev. Fred Hale of Pioneer, Larry Hale of Epps, La., and Ralph Hale of Bowie, Texas; two daughters, Gayla Miller of Epps and Vera Newton of Archer City, Texas; two brothers, Cecil Welch of Haughton, La., and Donnie Williams of Liddieville, La.; five sisters, Inez Brewton of West Monroe, Laverne Smith of Haughton, Mary Virginia Bennett of Winnsboro, La., Margaret Sharp of St. Francisville, La., and Dawn Williams of Tennessee; and 16 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 4 p.m. today at Walnut Grove Baptist Church with the Revs. Fred Hale, Jay Morgan and Todd Perry officiating. Burial will follow at Epps Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Hale, Cody Hale, Jason Hale, Brandon Miller, Marty Hale, Chandon Simms, Hank Newton, Brian Cockerham, Greg Forsse, Steve Brown, Joey Jones, Brandon Mulhearn and Scott Simms.

ALLIE MAE MARTIN

UTICA Allie Mae Martin died Tuesday, March 26, 2002, at Care Center in Clinton. She was 92.

Mrs. Martin was a native of Utica. She was a member of the Utica Christian Church where she was a retired deaconess and an honorary elder. She was a member of the Alford Sunday School class and the Christian Women’s Fellowship.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Noel Martin; and two grandsons, Stacy Majors Martin and Edward Noel Collins.

She is survived by two sons, E.H. “Bud” Martin and Larry Allen Martin, all of Utica; four daughters, Eva Brown Augustine of Raymond, Eleanor Mathes of Utica, Donnie Collins of Lauderdale and Elsie Carraway of New Holland, Penn.; and 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Utica Christian Church with the Rev. Lucien Lee officiating. Burial will follow at Utica Cemetery under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight and from 9:30 until 10:45 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home in Utica.
