The Lady Vikes (13-6) came back in the bottom of the seventh to strand two Lady Bulldogs (17-3) to earn the shutout.

“Our defense has taken care of us the last three or four games,” WC coach Lucy Young said. “We’ve been playing well enough to win, but we’re still not satisfied.”

On Tuesday, Warren Central scored two runs in the first and one in the second, but couldn’t score after that.

In the first, Cookie Johnson hit a double and scored on Chaney’s double to tie the game 1-1. Anna Mitchell singled to score Chaney for a 2-1 lead.

Lyn Strawn led off the second with a single and scored on a Katie Barnett fielder’s choice.

But Cleveland (23-1) added two in the fourth, three in the fifth and capped the game with two in the seventh.

The Lady Vikes had nine hits, but the six errors led to five unearned runs for Cleveland.

WC is scheduled to play archrival Vicksburg on Thursday in a key division game. As of now, the Lady Vikes are in second place in the division behind Natchez.
