“They were one of the two or three best teams we’ll play this year,” Vicksburg coach Kevin Manton said of Madison Central. “A lot of our kids know their kids. It’s bragging rights.”

Parker put the game away in the second half on an assist from Holly Head.

The Missy Gators are scheduled to play in the Northwest Rankin Tournament starting Wednesday.

Matt Minyard scored a second-half goal, but the Gators (1-1) had already dug themselves a 3-0 halftime deficit against Madison Central.

“We started a little tentative,” said first-year Vicksburg coach Drew Kennedy. “They didn’t shoot that much. This is not a terrible result. We’ll take this level by level.”
