Jones sparks VHS over Forest Hill

[12/04/02]Devin Jones scored a game-high 29 points and L.J. Scott had 12 as Vicksburg improved to 7-1 on the season with a 74-50 win over Forest Hill.
The Gators led from start to finish and held a 36-29 lead at halftime. Vicksburg used a 24-12 run in the third to put the game away.
The Gators will open the Warren Central Classic on Friday at 5:30 against South Pike.
(G) Forest Hill 61, VHS 58
Vicksburg High (4-4). erased a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit only to come up short against Forest Hill.
Tricia Dart scored a team-high 19 points and Tiffany Hubbard scored 14 for the Missy Gators.
“They played well and we didn’t play good defense,” Vicksburg coach Mike Coleman said. “It was like we had our feet glued to the floor.
“In the second half, we did what we were supposed to do, but we wasted all of our energy trying to come back.”
The Missy Gators, who will face South Pike on Friday at 4 p.m. at Warren Central, took a 3-point lead with two minutes to play in the fourth quarter.
(B) Loyd Star 72, St. Al 40
Loyd Star remained unbeaten and kept St. Aloysius from registering its first win of the season.
Drew Mazzanti had 10 and John David Hosemann netted nine in the loss.
We just didn’t score,” Flashes coach Paul Hayden said. “We missed seven shots in the paint in the first half and 12 free throws. That’s 26 points in the first half alone.”
The Flashes (0-5) trailed 39-12 at the break.

Laura Beth Lyons scored nine points and Caitlin Moak added seven as the Lady Flashes fell to Loyd Star.
St. Al, which trailed by seven at the half, only scored two points in the third quarter.
St. Al will host the Catholic Schools Tournament on Friday and Saturday.
