Girl Scout Samantha Butler, 13, lights a candle Sunday night for “Lights in the Dark Illumination” in Oak Park subdivision as tail lights from vehicles traveling east on Indiana Avenue, above, appear as a red streak of light. Samantha was one of 30 members of Girl Scout Troop 119 setting out 1,300 candles on Indiana Avenue from Blossom Lane to Old Highway 27. Redbud Street in the subdivision was also aglow with candles. Troop leader Jackie Shorter said this is the first year the Girl Scouts have taken on the project. At the same time Sunday night, Victoria Trichell, 10, left, and Shelby Wells, 11, center, got a treat from Santa Claus, right, while silhouetted by a passing car on MacArthur Place during an illumination in the Glenwood area. Boy Scouts from troops 638 and 76 placed more than 8,000 candle bags along the streets of the neighborhood, from Drummond and Bowmar to Mission 66, Sunday to raise money for summer camps and other projects.
