Lorraine Boyd Blackmore
Lorraine Boyd Blackmore died Saturday, March 1, 2003, at her home. She was 42.
A homemaker, Mrs. Blackmore was a lifelong resident of Vicksburg. She graduated in 1978 from Vicksburg High School and in 1981 from Hinds Community College.
She was a member of Word of Faith Christian Center.
She was preceded in death by her father, James Boyd Sr.; her maternal grandfather, James Elmore; and her paternal grandparents, Chester and Willie B. Taylor Boyd.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Blackmore of Vicksburg; one son, Christopher Blackmore of Vicksburg; one daughter, Jenorice D. Blackmore of Vicksburg; her mother, Alma Singleton Boyd of Vicksburg; four brothers, James Boyd Jr. of Montgomery, Ala., Larry Boyd of Atlanta, Anthony Boyd and Arthur Boyd of Vicksburg; a sister, Rosalind Boyd of Vicksburg; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Word of Faith Christian Center with Pastor Reginald Walker officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Saturday until the service at the church.
W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Dwayne Bradford
PORT GIBSON Dwayne Bradford died Friday, Feb. 28, 2003, at his home in Port Gibson. He was 40.
Mr. Bradford was a member of Magnolia M.B. Church and received an honorable discharge from the Army.
He was preceded in death by his father, Louis Bradford.
He is survived by his mother, Julia Bradford of Port Gibson; eight brothers, Paul Bradford, Bobby Bradford, Charles Heath, C.P. Heath and Everette Health, all of Port Gibson, Hearty Bradford of Houston, Texas, Louis Bradford of Los Angeles and Donnie L. Heath of Phoenix, Ariz.; five sisters, Wilma Devine, Glenda Mills, Bessie Heath, Ruby Heath and Leala Heath, all of Port Gibson; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Magnolia M.B. Church in Port Gibson with the Rev. James Dorsey officiating. Burial will follow at Thompson Memorial Garden Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 until 6 today at Thompson Funeral Home Inc. in Port Gibson and from 1 p.m. Saturday until the service at the church.
Willie Chong
Services for Willie Chong will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Charles Boykin officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 until 7 tonight at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.
Mr. Chong died Saturday, March 1, 2003, at Southwest Medical Center in Lafayette, La. He was 86.
Mr. Chong retired from the YMCA as a masseuse. He was of the Catholic faith.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, George Chong and Leonard Pierce.
Survivors include his wife, Myrtle Chong; one daughter, Nancy Pendry of Sumpter, S.C.; nine sons, Leon Robinson and Mark A. Johnson, both of Vicksburg, Cecil S. Johnson of Tunica, Harvey D. Wardell of Itta Bena, Roosevelt Wardell of Jackson, Willie Chong Jr. of Fayetteville, N.C., Welton Wardell of Harvey, La., Joseph H. Johnson of Burbank, Calif., and Robert Lee Wardell of El Paso, Texas; one sister, Toy Marks of Los Angeles; 13 grandchildren; and great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives, including Loretta Waynes of Los Angeles.
William Floyd Copeland Jr.
OAK GROVE William Floyd Copeland Jr. died Wednesday, March 5, 2003, at Morehouse General Hospital in Bastrop, La. He was 72.
Mr. Copeland was born in Shreveport to the late William Floyd Copeland Sr. and Mildred Moore Copeland. He was a resident of Oak Grove.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Copeland of Oak Grove; two sons, Wesley Copeland of Pioneer, La., and Dewayne Copeland of Oak Grove; a daughter, Linda Copeland of Oak Grove; and two sisters, Gladys Sweat of Bastrop and Myrtle Steward of Pioneer.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Goodwill Church of God in Goodwill, La., with the Revs. David Radford and Jason Strong officiating. Burial will follow at Red Wing Cemetery in Oak Grove.
Pallbearers will be Ricky Compton, Donald Sasser, Delton Stover, Roger Taylor, Jim Crosby and Johnny Driver.
Ollie Mae Jenkins
FAYETTE Ollie Mae Jenkins died Saturday, March 1, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. She was 77.
Mrs. Jenkins was a resident of Fayette.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Soil Jenkins; her parents, Alfred Bradley and Earlie Bradley; a daughter, Earlie Lee Gladys; two sisters, Josie Mae Green Harris and Classie Mae O’Quinn; and three brothers, Edward Louis Bradley, Eddie Jeff Bradley and Horace Bradley.
Survivors include a son, Hubert Horn of Houston, Texas; three sisters, Lugenia Scott of Vicksburg, Easter Earl of Fayette and Rosie Lee Williams of Natchez; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and other relatives including, the Selmon family of Vicksburg.
Services will be at noon Saturday at Spencer Funeral Home in Fayette.
Fannie Monroe
PORT GIBSON Fannie Monroe died Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. She was 89.
Mrs. Monroe was preceded in death by her parents, Minerva and Norman Felton; her husband, Joseph Monroe; a son, D.C. Norton; a daughter, Bessie L. Norton; four brothers, James Felton, Kent Felton, Clark Felton and Norman Felton Jr.; and one sister, Enetter Culbert.
She is survived by her niece and caregiver, Princess Buck-Goings of Port Gibson; a sister, Ozie Parker of Zachary, La.; a brother, Luther Felton of Fayette; one granddaughter, Eva Norton of Fayette; and other relatives and friends.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Salem M.B. Church in Fayette with the Rev. John Frye officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 until 6 today at Thompson Funeral Home Inc. of Port Gibson and from 10 a.m. Saturday until the service at the church.
George Devan Smith
FAYETTE George Devan Smith died Sunday, March 2, 2003, at University Medical Center in Jackson. She was 40.
Miss Smith was preceded in death by her father, Calvin Smith.
She is survived by her mother, Mildred Smith of Fayette; a son, Timothy Larry of Fayette; four brothers, General Thomas, Rufus Thomas, Houston Smith and Lucious Smith, all of Fayette; three sisters, Shirley Smith and Frances Smith, both of Fayette, and Leslie Maple of Gary, Ind.; and nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives, including Larry Ross of Vicksburg.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Fellowship Baptist Church in Lorman with the Rev. Kemp Burley officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 until 6 today at Thompson Funeral Home Inc. of Port Gibson and from noon Saturday until the service at the church.
