Nettie L. Hood
Services for Nettie L. Hood will be at 2 p.m. today at Cedar Hill Cemetery with the Revs. David Harrison and Wilson Webb officiating. Burail will follow under the direction of Fisher Funeral Home.
Miss Hood died Tuesday, April 29, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. She was 87.
A Vicksburg native, Miss Hood had been a Port Gibson resident for the past three years. She was the daughter of the late Huston H. and Nettie Wright Hood.
She retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers after 53 years. She was a member of Port Gibson United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Hamilton Hood and Harvey Hood; two sisters, Elizabeth Hood and Mary Jones; and a nephew, Jimmy Hood.
She is survived by cousins, including Judy Leggett and Annazel Barnes, both of Vicksburg, Lucy Pollard of Lufkin, Texas, and Kenneth Pollard of Marshall, Texas; and friends, the Rev. David and Karen Harrison.

Evan Shields
PORT GIBSON Evan “Dick” Shields died Sunday, April 27, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. He was 78.
Mr. Shields was a carpenter and brick mason. He was a veteran of the Army.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Tarleton and Junior Shields.
Survivors include a sister and brother-in-law, Laura and Roosevelt McCormick of Akron, Ohio; and other relatives and friends, including Carl and Aretha Hill of Port Gibson.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Thompson Funeral Home Inc. in Port Gibson with the Rev. Robert Branch officiating. Burial will follow at the Sneed Family Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 until 5 today and from noon Friday until the service at the funeral home.
