James Buchanon

James “Buck” Buchanon died Monday, June 2, 2003, at Vicksburg Trace Haven. He was 88.

Mr. Buchanon was a retired, self-employed shoe repairman. He was a native of Pelahatchie and a member and deacon at Jones Chapel M.B. Church in Flora.

He served in the Army in World War II and was a member of Sunshine Lodge No. 99 AF&AM.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Vatie Lee Ellis Buchanon; two brothers, Vertis Buchanon and Manuel Buchanon; five sisters, Melissa Holmes, Topsy Smith, Mary Braxton, Maggie Cosey and Minnie Turpin; his grandmother, Betty Edwards; and his parents, Walter Buchanon and Milria E.B. Brown.

Survivors include a sister, Lula J. Brown of Vicksburg; a sister-in-law, Christine Buchanon of Vicksburg; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.

W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Helen Rose Buffaloe

OAK GROVE Helen Rose Buffaloe died Sunday, June 1, 2003, at West Carroll Care Center. She was 82.

Born in Dermott, Ark., Mrs. Buffaloe was a resident of Oak Grove.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John M. Buffaloe; and her parents, Walter Corbett Renfroe and Ruby Augusta Renfroe.

Survivors include four daughters, Jeanne Morrison of Varnell, Ga., Sandra Jordan of Lake Charles, La., Carol Bonner of Mer Rouge, La., and Barbara Nagem of Oak Grove; two sisters, “Bugs” Stuart of Cabot, Ark., and Martha Jones of Hernando, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Cox Funeral Home in Oak Grove with the Rev. Joe Hoover officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.

Visitation will be until 9 tonight at the funeral home.

Ollie C. Gorham Jr.

Ollie C. “Frank” Gorham Jr. died Tuesday, May 27, 2003, at Mississippi Baptist Memorial Hospital. He was 45.

Born in Baltimore, Mr. Gorham was a resident of Vicksburg. He served in the Army for 20 years and was a member of Living Word Baptist Church. He was a security guard for military installation at Waterways Experiment Station.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Dennis Gorham and Norman Patterson; and a sister, Angela Howell.

Survivors include his wife, Kathyleen Moore Gorham; three sons, Brian Gorham of Fort Campbell, Ky., and Quentin Gorham and Anjwon Gorham, both of Vicksburg; two daughters, Tawanda Brown and Tchnavia Gorham, both of Vicksburg; nine brothers, Robert Gorham, Larry Gorham, Michael Gorham, Arthur Gorham, Travis Gorham, Tony Jobbs, Irvin Jobbs, Clinton Jobbs and Glenn Patterson, all of Baltimore; four sisters, Yolanda Harris, Yvette Brunson, Carla Bogier and Terri Todd, all of Baltimore; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Military U.M. Church in Columbus, Miss., with Stevie C. Duncan officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Gardens under the direction of Carter’s Funeral Home in Columbus.

Visitation will be from 3 until 8 tonight at the funeral home and from noon until the service Wednesday at the church.

Pallbearers will be friends of the family.
