Scott Lester Coy

Scott Lester Coy died Friday, June 13, 2003, at Sonny V. Montgomery Veterans Hospital in Jackson. He was 93.

Mr. Coy was born in Vicksburg and was a graduate of McIntyre High School.

Mr. Coy was a Navy veteran. He retired from the New York City transit system in 1969 after 31 years of service.He moved back to Vicksburg in 1988.

He is survived by his wife, Marion Coy of Vicksburg; five sons, Scotty Coy, Ernest Coy, Mark Coy, Sherwin Coy, all of New York City, and Evins Brown Jr. of Jackson; two daughters, Gladys Bryant of Vallejo, Calif., and Linda Ruth Brown Blocker of Tupelo; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Earnest L. Goff

PORT GIBSON n Earnest L. Goff died Friday, June 13, 2003, at the Claiborne County Nursing Home. He was 72.

Mr. Goff was a lifelong resident of Claiborne County. He was a foreman for R.G. LeTourneau Company for 25 years before working as timber manager for Richard French for 20 years. He retired in 1999. He was a member of Montgomery Hunting Club for 54 years, and was manager there for the last 25 years. He was a member of Emanuel Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy R. Goff of Port Gibson; one son, Richard Goff of Tomball, Texas; one daughter, Joyce Goff of Port Gibson; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Glenwood Chapel with Rev. Michael McKnight, pastor of Port Gibson Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Wintergreen Cemetery.

Visitation will be at Glenwood Funeral Home from 6 to 8 tonight.

Pallbearers will be DeWayne Gordon, Mac Wood, Don Wilson, Lynn Goff, Mike Goff and Daniel Jackson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Hynum and Leon Dale.

Otha Charles Phillips

Otha Charles “Charlie” Phillips died Friday, June 13, 2003, at St. Dominic-Jackson Memorial Hospital. He was 60.

Mr. Phillips was born in Neshoba County and was a resident of Vicksburg since 1967.

He was the son of the late Johnny and Kate Hill Phillips Sr. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Johnny Phillips Jr.

He graduated from Mississippi State University and worked as a civil engineer with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District for 36 years. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.

Mr. Phillips was president of the Warren Central High School Athletic Boosters Club.

He was survived by his wife, Sandra P. Phillips of Vicksburg; one daughter, Jennifer Margaret Phillips of Brandon; two sons, Michael Charles Phillips of Clinton and Jeffrey Chad Phillips of Vicksburg; four sisters, Jay Smith and Arnita Logan, both of Philadelphia, Dot Phillips of Kosciusko and Isalene Grant of Wixon, Mich.; four brothers, Arthur Phillips of Madison, and Frank Phillips, Thomas Phillips and Jerry Phillips, all of Philadelphia; and five grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Riles Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Billy Brumfield, pastor of Immanuel Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Monday at New Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery in Neshoba County.

Visitation will be from 2 until 6 today at Riles Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Tony Stafford, Jamie Yearwood, George Sills, Brock Phillips, Lee Phillips, Greg Starnes, Kyron Mabry and Robert Morgan.

Honorary pallbearers will be John Newton, Paul Cothran, Billy H. Johnson, Lamar Eakes, Brad Sullivan, employees of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District and the coaching staff of Warren Central High School.
