Loydale Ligon Allen

Loydale Ligon Allen died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. She was 59.

Born in Cleveland, Miss., Mrs. Allen was a graduate of Bobo High School in Clarksdale. She graduated in 1966 from Delta State University and lived for 15 years in Tupelo, where she was a member of the Junior Auxiliary and served with the hospital auxiliary.

She had been a Vicksburg resident for the past 17 years and was a former employee of Hayes Marketing Inc. She was a member of Crawford Street United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Allen was preceded in death by her parents, Walton Merritt Ligon and Dr. George C. Furr and Bessie Dale Ligon Furr.

Survivors include her husband, Edward L. Allen of Vicksburg; her daughter, Carol Allen Popwell of Birmingham, Ala.; a son, Mark E. Allen of Brookhaven; five grandchildren; and other relatives, including Wayne S. Orr of Clarksdale.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Clarksdale with the Rev. Geoffrey Joyner, pastor of Crawford Street United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Riles Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 4 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.

Edrie Gorman Bailey

CLIFTON Edrie Gorman Bailey died Monday, Aug. 11, 2003, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. She was 88.

Mrs. Bailey was a native of Rankin, Texas, and had lived in the Clifton community in Scott County since 1938. She was a member of Clifton Baptist Church, Hillsboro Homemakers Club and the Gideons Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Olson Bailey Sr.

Survivors include two sons, Cecil Bailey Jr. of Richardson, Texas, and Richard Bailey of Vicksburg; four daughters, Barbara Marler of Clinton, Lois Harrelson of Jackson and Cathy Johnson and Pam Haralson, both of Forest; three grandchildren; and a number of stepgrandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Services were at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Clifton Baptist Church with the Revs. Billy Henry, Tommy Jones and Marshall Lum officiating. Burial followed at Clifton Baptist Cemetery under the direction of Ott & Lee Funeral Home of Forest.

Pallbearers were W.T. Harrell, Jeff Harrell, Michael Worrell, Abe Morris, Don Harrell and Gary Pettigrew.

Honorary pallbearers were Billy Pope, Clyde Jarrell, Verner Ray Gatewood, Bobby Kirby, Larry Harrell and Johnny Cooper.

Dorothy Davenport-Anthony

FLOSSMOOR, Ill. Dorothy Davenport-Anthony died Sunday, Aug. 10, 2003, in Flossmoor, Ill. She was 57.

Services were at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Sullivan-Lane Funeral Home in Homewood, Ill. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Zion Travelers M.B. Church Cemetery in Utica under the direction of Westhaven Funeral Home.

Wardell Johnson Sr.

Services for Wardell “Gar” Johnson Sr. will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at St. Mary’s Center. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 until 7 p.m. Saturday at Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home and from 1 p.m. Sunday until the service at St. Mary’s.

Mr. Johnson died Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2003, at his home. He was 70.

Mr. Johnson was a member of St. James A.M.E. Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

He was also a participant in the Vicksburg Benevolent Homecoming Club activities.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey Johnson Sr. and Minnie Terry; one brother, John Martin; one sister, Dorothy Terry; and a granddaughter, Gail Perkins.

He is survived by his wife, Grace E. Johnson; three sons, Wardell Johnson Jr. of Atlanta, Tyrone Johnson of Wilson, N.C., and Michael Sean Johnson of Vicksburg; six daughters, Lydia Robinson Perkins of Inglewood, Calif., Vonciel Kennedy of Lakewood, Calif., and Dorothy L. Robinson, Brenda Johnson, Loretta Johnson and Denise Peoples, all of Vicksburg; two brothers, Jackson Mayor Harvey Johnson Jr. and James Kelly of Los Angeles; four sisters, Beulah Marion Terry and Ruby Lee Martin, both of Maywood, Ill., Eunice Lewis of Vicksburg and Wilma White of Edwards; 20 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Perlean Lewis

Services for Perlean Lewis will be at 12:30 p.m. Sunday at Orange Hill M.B. Church in Bolton. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon until 7 p.m. Saturday at Lakeview Funeral Home in Vicksburg.

Mrs. Lewis died Friday, Aug. 8, 2003, at her home in Edwards. She was 93.

She was a homemaker.

She is survived by her son, Willie Lewis of Edwards; her daughter, Verlean Holmes of Edwards; a brother, Preston Tucker of Bolton; six grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
