Hospital expansion begins

About 60 people attended the event in support of the $7.67 million cardiac care unit, which will house 14 beds in the rear of the facility off U.S. 61 North. Diane Gawronski, director of marketing and public relations for River Region, said the CCU will act as a special recovery unit added due to the success of the hospital’s open heart program. Contractors with Bovis Lend Lease said the construction should take about 10 months. The $123 million complex was opened in February 2002.(Melanie Duncan Thortis The Vicksburg Post)
