Flashes claim first meet win of season

[9/29/03]Bern Ebersole won the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard breaststroke to lead the St. Aloysius Flashes to a first-place finish at the Jones County Invitational swim meet on Saturday.

The Flashes totaled 105 points to beat second-place Madison Central, which had 85 1/2. Warren Central tied Madison-St. Joe for seventh place, with 27 points, and Vicksburg High was 15th with two points.

St. Al also won the 200-yard medley relay and the 400-yard freestyle relay, while Will Tomlinson was second in the 50-yard freestyle and third in the 100 freestyle. Allen Karel was second in the 100-yard backstroke and third in the 100-yard butterfly for the Flashes.

Jacob Fischenich had WC’s best finish, a fifth-place showing in the 200 IM.

In the girls’ meet, Warren Central’s Kris Fischenich placed second in the 50-yard freestyle and fourth in the 100-yard backstroke to help the Lady Vikes tie St. Al for seventh place.

Elena English was third in the 100-yard freestyle for WC, while Bonney Neill was third in the 100-yard breastroke for St. Al.

Cat Rowan had Vicksburg’s best finish, a second-place effort in the 100-yard breaststroke. The Missy Gators totaled 13 points, tying Terry for 11th place.
