HAMMOND, Ind. Rebecca Ann “Annie Ree” Barber, formerly of Vicksburg, died Sunday, Oct. 5, 2003, in Hammond, Ind. She was 64.

A resident of Hammond, Mrs. Barber was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Rebecca Thomas and Rick Owens; her husband, Sidney Barber Sr.; a brother, Mason Thomas; and a sister, Ellen Mae Davis.

Survivors include three daughters, Brenda Jackson, Jacquelyn Parrish and Lora Barber, all of Hammond; three sons, Sidney Barber Jr., Darren Barber and Patrick Barber, all of Hammond; one sister, Mary Jean Ellis of Vicksburg; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends, including members of the Thomas, Owens and Newman families.

Services were Oct. 10 at Bethlehem Congregational Church of God in Christ in Hammond.

Vincent J. Canizaro Jr.

Vincent J. “V.J.” Canizaro Jr. died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2003, at his home. He was 56.

Born in Pascagoula, Mr. Canizaro had been a Vicksburg resident most of his life. He was a graduate of St. Aloysius High School and attended the University of Mississippi. He served in the Army Reserve from 1967 until 1973.

Mr. Canizaro owned Up to Date Shoe Shop after his parents retired. He was a communicant of St. Michael Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his father, Vincent J. Canizaro Sr., and a sister, Mary Joy McCarthy.

Survivors include three daughters, Diana Heineck of Starkville and twins, Kimberly Marie Canizaro and Angela Christine Canizaro, both of Kansas City, Mo.; and his mother, Mary J. Canizaro of Vicksburg.

Private services will be under the direction of Riles Funeral Home.

Zettie Dumas

RUSTON, La. Zettie Dumas died today, Oct. 23, 2003, at Lincoln General Hospital in Ruston, La. She was 93.

Mrs. Dumas was a Southern Mission Field Baptist missionary.

She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Otis Dumas.

She is survived by a daughter, Jean Barmore of Ruston; two sons, James Dumas of Conyers, Ga., and Billy Dumas of Vicksburg; one brother, Lester Neal of Colmesneil, Texas; one sister, Eloice Ledford of Zwolle, La.; and six grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Ruston with the Rev. Jerry Whitman officiating. Burial will follow at Culbertson Cemetery in Dubach, La.

Daniel Xavier Hogan Sr.

NEW ROADS, La. Daniel Xavier Hogan Sr. died Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2003, at Pointe Coupee General Hospital in New Roads, La. He was 75.

A Vicksburg native, Mr. Hogan served in the Navy with the Seabees in World War II and the Korean Conflict. He retired as a sheet-metal worker from Clovis Hendry Corp. in Addis, La. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 8878, American Legion Post No. 0248, VFW and Sheet Metal Workers Union Local No. 21.

He was a member and usher at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lakeland, La.

Mr. Hogan was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver and Lucy Hogan, and brothers and sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Nell Bello Hogan; a daughter, Albert Bergeron of New Roads; a son, Danny Hogan Jr. of Hammond, La.; two sisters, Mable Ellington of Natchez and Lucy Sutterfield of Pearl; and six grandchildren and a stepgrandchild.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with the Rev. Greg Daigle officiating. Burial will follow at False River Memorial Park in New Roads.

Visitation will be from 6 until 9 tonight and from 8 until 9:30 a.m. Friday at Niland’s Funeral Home in New Ro
