Loyd Star sweeps past St. Aloysius

[12/3/03]Sarah Kerut scored 14 points, but St. Aloysius couldn’t overcome an 18-point halftime deficit and lost to Loyd Star, 41-27 on Tuesday.

The Lady Flashes (2-3) chopped the deficit to 10 points in the fourth quarter, but the teams combined for only six points in the final period.

“We got it down to 10 points. We played well for a quarter. We need to put four quarters together,” St. Al coach Paul Hayden said.

Shana Johnson led Loyd Star with 20 points.

(B) Loyd Star 82, St. Al 36

Jarod Britt had a game-high 21 points to lead Loyd Star to a rout of St. Aloysius (1-4).

Kyle Richards had 10 points and Anthony Rector added seven for St. Al, which gave up nearly as many points in the third quarter (32) as it did in the first half (34).

Loyd Star’s outburst increased its lead from 34-18 at halftime to 66-30 at the end of the third period and blew the game wide open.

“We came out flat, and again, we’re not playing four quarters of basketball. It shows by the score of the quarters,” Hayden said.

(G) WC 55, Madison Central 39

Carla Latham led all scorers with 22 points as Warren Central (5-4) defeated Madison Central.

Tranyce Peoples added seven points for WC, while Ashley Vinzant and Ebon Williams had six apiece.

Madison Adams led Madison Central with 19 points.
