Huey Garrett Miller

MADISON, Miss. Huey Garrett “Buddy” Miller died Thursday, Jan. 1, 2004, at his home. He was 76.
Born in Belzoni, Mr. Miller lived in Madison, Miss. He was an Army veteran, having served in World War II. He was a police officer in McComb for 14 years and was a deputy sheriff in Pike County before becoming chief of police in Port Gibson in 1969. He was a member of the Mississippi Society of Chiefs of Police, where he was on the executive board and was vice president. He served on the Grand Gulf Military Park Commission for five years before retiring in 2000.
Mr. Miller was a Dixie Youth Baseball coach and served as district chairman for fundraising for the March of Dimes. He was the recipient of the “Volunteer of the Year” award from Bethany Christian Services.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey and Mary Rico Miller; and a sister, Mary Tatum.
Survivors include his wife, Avis Lynn O’Brien Miller of Madison; a son, Deryl Miller of Baton Rouge, La.; a daughter, Angie Stubbs of Madison; a sister, Bonnie Stedman of McComb; a granddaughter; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Glenwood Funeral Home in Port Gibson with Dr. Randall O’Brien officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. at Hollywood Cemetery in McComb.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. Saturday until the service at the funeral home.

Arlee S. Smith
Arlee S. Smith died Thursday, Jan. 1, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. She was 89.
A lifelong resident of Vicksburg, Mrs. Smith was a seamstress and homemaker. She was a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church, where she was a former trustee and stewardess.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary Jane Smith; two sisters, Arnetta Jenkins and Beulah Smith; and a brother, George Jenkins.
She is survived by a son, William Smith of Atlanta; a daughter, Georgie Brown of Vicksburg; a sister, Myrtle Heard of Pittsburgh, Pa.; two grandchildren, Sharon Allen of Vicksburg and Lesley Bradshaw of Toronto, Canada; a great-grandchild; and other relatives, including the Kelly and McMurray families of California and the Weathersby family of Jackson.

Eunice Dean White
EDWARDS Eunice Dean White died Thursday, Jan. 1, 2004, at her home in Edwards. She was 82.
Mrs. White was a member and mother at St. James M.B. Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles White.
She is survived by a daughter, Ethel Lee Callahan of Edwards; a brother, James William Harris of Milwaukee, Wis.; two granddaughters, Sharon Atkins and Henrietta Callahan, both of Edwards; four great-grandchildren; and other relatives.

Abe Winn Abe Winn died Sunday, Dec. 28, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. He was 95.
A resident of Vicksburg, Mr. Winn was a member and former trustee of New Rock of Ages M.B. Church.
Survivors include two grandchildren and other relatives.

Cynthia Ann Young Wright
Cynthia Ann Young Wright died Jan. 1, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. She was 50.
Mrs. Wright was a member of King David M.B. Church No. 1. She had been employed with Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home for 12 years.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Catherine Young-Thornton; a stepfather, Henry Thornton; her father, Robert Hudson; her grandmother, Annie Mae Gibson; her great-grandmother who reared her, Elizabeth Benard Young; her great-grandfather, Clarence Young; a sister, Diane Young; two brothers, Tony Young and Tommy Ray Hudson; and a stepson, Ahmad Wright.
Survivors include her husband, Dennis Wright of Vicksburg; three daughters, Tiombe Maniel McRunnels, Tisheika Clark and Naheya Clark, all of Vicksburg; five brothers, Michael Young, Alvin Jenkins, Melvin Young, Ronnie Young and Gregory Hudson, all of Vicksburg; four sisters, Elizabeth Ann Bates of Kenner, La., Mary Ann Hudson of Vicksburg, Mary Alice Harris of Los Angeles and Georgia Hudson of Atlanta; and grandchildren and other relatives, including DeNeese White and members of the Benard, Young and Gaskin families of Vicksburg.
