Addie Faye Welch Boyte

OAK GROVE Addie Faye Welch Boyte died Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004, at St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe. She was 72.

Born in Simpson County, Mrs. Boyte was a resident of Oak Grove.

She was preceded in death by her father, Estus L. Welch.

She is survived by her husband, James M. Boyte of Oak Grove; a son, Michael Tackett of Bastrop, La.; two daughters, Belinda Spainhower of Swartz, La., and Vicky Sanders of Jackson; her mother, Lela Craft Welch of Oak Grove; one brother, L.E. Welch of Yuba City, Calif.; one sister, Betty Jo Wells of Pineville, La.; and six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services were at 11:30 a.m. today at New Zion Baptist Church with the Revs. Jimmy Herring and James Kitchens officiating. Burial followed at Red Wing Cemetery in Oak Grove under the direction of Cox Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Steve Spainhower, Brad Spainhower, Jeff Spainhower, Bill Sanders, Blake Sanders and Steven Sanders.

Waymon Ray Fortenberry

TALLULAH Waymon Ray Fortenberry died Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. He was 79.

Mr. Fortenberry was a first sergeant in the Army, serving in Germany and France in World War II. He had worked as a barber in Lake Providence and Bastrop. A farmer, he was also a farm equipment salesman. He retired from the East Carroll Parish Prison Farm as superintendent.

Mr. Fortenberry was a former elder of Northside Church of Christ and was a member of the American Legion.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fount Fortenberry and Angie Dukes Fortenberry; four brothers, Quitman Fortenberry, Benton Fortenberry, Elton Fortenberry and F.E. Fortenberry; and two sisters, Beatrice Fairchild and Laddie Dee Shores.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Louise Jones Fortenberry of Tallulah; a son, Danny Ray Fortenberry of Transylvania; a daughter, Beverly Fortenberry Marsh of Tallulah; one sister, Bradis Johnson; three brothers, Quinton Fortenberry, Clint Fortenberry and Earl K. Fortenberry Sr.; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Services were at 10 a.m. today at Northside Church of Christ in Lake Providence with the Revs. V.W. Hayhurst and Richard Taylor officiating. Burial followed at Lake Providence City Cemetery under the direction of Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Alvin Johnson, Dalton Fortenberry, David Fortenberry, Earl K. Fortenberry Jr., Buddy Fairchild and Freddy Fortenberry.

Honorary pallbearers were Brown Nelson, John Harris, Gerald Stanley, Gary Strobel, Floyd Parker and John Hankins.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, Tallulah Academy, Northside Church of Christ in Lake Providence or Tallulah Church of Christ.

James Aubrey George

ST. JOSEPH James Aubrey “Mr. James A” George died Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004, at Franklin Medical Center in Winnsboro, La. He was 83.

Mr. George was a native of Perryville, Ark., and was reared in Tensas Parish. He was a retired farmer, commercial fisherman and manager of Winterquarters Hunting and Fishing Club.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Alta Stewart George; his parents, Ezra and Pearl George; a brother; and three sisters.

He is survived by three daughters, Norma George Ray and Helene George Packwood, both of St. Joseph, and Clara George Cowan of Denham Springs, La.; a granddaughter, Jamie Jo Packwood of Walker, La.; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Legion Memorial Cemetery in Newellton. Burial will follow under the direction of Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. today until the service at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Joseph Packwood, Britt Keahey, Jimmy Storey, Aubrey Storey, Roy McDaniel and Harold Kirkpatrick Jr.

Honorary pallbearers will be Gloria Landry and members of Winterquarters Hunting and Fishing Club.

George P. McDonald

TALLULAH George P. McDonald died Friday, Feb. 6, 2004, at his home in Tallulah. He was 67.

Mr. McDonald, a lifelong resident of Madison Parish, retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers after 29 years of service. He owned McDonald Pecans and co-owned M&B Pecans in Tallulah.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Tallulah Masonic Lodge and Mississippi Pecan Growers Association. He was also a board member of the Louisiana Pecan Growers Association.

Mr. McDonald was preceded in death by his parents, Baxter Sr. and Erna Powell McDonald, and a brother, Baxter McDonald Jr.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Ann Panquin McDonald of Tallulah; two sons, Billy Charles McDonald of Tallulah and Darryl Keith McDonald of Shreveport; two brothers, Frank McDonald of Bedford, Texas, and David McDonald of Groves, Texas; five sisters, Margie Henry of Arlington, Texas, Erna Jean Crowson of Shreveport, Ruth McDonald of Tindol, La., Patsy Antley of Waverly, La., and Sara Ann Gillum of Crockett, Texas; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and friends.

Services were at 3 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church of Tallulah with the Rev. John Rushing and Harold Melancon officiating. Burial followed at Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Shelby Moffett, Brian Panquin, Ronnie Crowson, Benjy Gillum, John Antley and James McDonald.

Honorary pallbearers were current and retired employees of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Mat Sinking Unit of Vicksburg, and members of the Louisiana Pecan Growers Association.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or a favorite charity.
