Ashes on Wednesday
Published 12:00 am Wednesday, February 25, 2004
Barbara Smith receives ashes in the shape of a cross on her head from the Rev. Patrick Farrell at St. Paul Catholic Church early today, Ash Wednesday. In the Roman Catholic church and some others, the ashes represent creation, starting from dust, the sacrifices of Jesus Christ and the return to dust. Ash Wednesday begins the 40-day Lenten season, which ends with Easter Sunday.(Jon Giffin The Vicksburg Post)
