Bernice Jackson

Bernice Jackson died Tuesday, March 9, 2004, at her home. She was 89.

Mrs. Jackson was a member of St. Mark Freewill Baptist Church. She was a retired domestic worker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Jackson; her parents, Jim and Lucinda Clark; two brothers, Charles Clark and Andrew Clark; four sisters, Willie Mae Adams, Josephine Williams, Ann Sweezer and Melissa Wince; and two sons, Henry Jackson and Austin Jackson.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary J. Ballard of Milwaukee, Wis., and Henrietta Ellis of Kansas City, Mo.; two sisters, Arnel Clark and Emma Culkins, both of Vicksburg; and grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Williams Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Nathan Jones

Nathan Jones died Tuesday, March 9, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. He was 88.

Mr. Jones had worked at Beechwood Restaurant. He was a member of Mount Carmel M.B. Church and a veteran of World War II.

He is survived by Rachel Bingham of Vicksburg; a daughter, Dorothy Mitchell of Vicksburg; one brother, Lee Otha Jones of Rockford, Ill.; one sister, Belinda Webb of California; a number of grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Beatrice J. Valentine

Beatrice J. Valentine died Tuesday, March 9, 2004, at Madison Parish Hospital in Tallulah. She was 83.

A native of Eudora, Ark., Mrs. Valentine was the daughter of the late Reden R. and Josephine Sansing Jackson. She was a graduate of Eudora High School and the Joliet School of Beauty Culture in Joliet, Ill. In 1958, she moved to Vicksburg where she owned and operated a beauty salon until she retired.

She served as a volunteer with the Vicksburg Medical Center Auxiliary and Hospice Care Foundation. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church and the Vicksburg Women’s Bowling Association Hall of Fame.

Mrs. Valentine was preceded in death by her husband, Howard O. Valentine.

Survivors include a son, Howard Valentine Jr. of Dallas, Texas; a sister, Jean Bowlin of Chula Vista, Calif.; two grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Fisher Funeral Home with Dr. Frank Lescallette, pastor of Trinity Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. Thursday until the service t the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Donald Randolph, Willie Hughes, John A. Thomason III, Michael J. Terry Sr. and Billy Dumas.

Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of Trinity Baptist Church.
