[3/10/04]Eric Douglas recorded his first career varsity win Tuesday, a 16-4 decision over Bay Springs in the first of two victories for Warren Central.
Zach Balthrop carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning in the second game, a 5-0 Vikings’ win over 17th-ranked Kosciusko. The victories improve WC to 7-1 on the season.
“Our pitchers are throwing strikes and giving us a chance to win,” said WC coach Randy Broome, whose team had questions about the pitching coming into the season. “Not only are they throwing strikes, they are hitting their spots.”
In the Bay Springs win, Douglas threw four innings and had a one-hitter going into the fourth before giving way to Parker White.
Kyle Gordon led WC with three hits, while Allen Carlisle belted a single, double and scored three times, and Josh Gordon had two hits and drove in three runs. Nick Carson, Russell Johnson and Ben Koestler each had a double.
In the nightcap, Balthrop struck out 10 over six innings and scattered three hits all in the sixth to earn the win. He pitched out of a bases-loaded, no-out jam in the sixth.
Mark Different had a pair of hits and two RBIs, and teammate Josh Gordon had two hits with an RBI. Balthrop added an RBI single.
