Downing Abbott Bolls Sr.
ABILENE, Texas Downing Abbott Bolls Sr. died Thursday, March 25, 2004, at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene, Texas. He was 83.
Mr. Downing was born in Arkansas and had lived in Vicksburg as a child. He attended McMurry University in Abilene, where he graduated magna cum laude with a degree in business administration.
He spent about 29 years in the Army and Air Force, retiring as a lieutenant colonel in the Air Force in 1971. He worked as hospital administrator at Dyess Air Force Base.
He was elected twice as a county commissioner in Taylor County, Texas. He was also a member of the board of directors of the Taylor County Central Appraisal District for eight years.
He was a member of the Retired Officers Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6873, Seniors Coalition, Heritage Foundation, Air Force Medical Service Corps Association and the Air Rescue Association. He was a member of Brook Hollow Christian Church.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Lou Hagins Bolls of Abilene; three sons, Terrence Michael Bolls of Chantilly, Va., Downing Abbot Bolls Jr. of Abilene and Earl David Bolls of Austin; two daughters, Deborah Elaine Gryzwa of Eula, Texas, and Ann Bolls Hester of Abilene; one brother, Albert Hinton Bolls of Pine Bluff, Ark.; and seven grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Brook Hollow Christian Church in Abilene with Dr. Steven Williams of Brook Hollow officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park under the direction of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home.
Visitation will be at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home from 1 until 3 p.m. today.
