Doyle Frey
LAKE PROVIDENCE Doyle Frey died Sunday, March 28, 2004, at Tulane Medical Center in New Orleans. He was 73.
Mr. Frey was a resident of Lake Providence.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Boyce and Opal Fern Frey.
Survivors include his wife, Christine Frey of Lake Providence; two sons, Doyle Dewayne Frey of Chesapeake, Va., and Allen Lamar Frey of Epps; a daughter, Kathy Lee Johnson of Tallulah; three sisters, Syble Mims of Dublin, Ga., Joyce Fay Wilder of Manchester, Tenn., and Norma Dale Sanford of Trinity, Texas; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 3 p.m. today at Cox Funeral Home in Lake Providence with the Rev. Cecil Harvey officiating. Burial will follow at Providence Memorial Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jamie George, Wesley Johnson, Mike Waller, Marion Waller, Ronnie Pardon, Lane Pearson and Lester Neathery.
Ruby Manning Harkey
TALLULAH Ruby Manning Harkey died Sunday, March 28, 2004, at Olive Branch Senior Care Center in Tallulah.
Born in Portland, Ark., Mrs. Harkey was a resident of Tallulah. She was a housewife and a member of First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jessie Wayne Harkey; and a daughter, Margie Ruth “Toodlum” Harkey.
Survivors include a son, Jeff W. Harkey of Monroe; and two grandchildren, John Harkey of Monroe and Jenny Kate Harkey Holt of Lake Providence.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Silver Cross Cemetery in Tallulah with the Rev. John Rushing officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home.
Charles Kelly Hunter
Charles Kelly Hunter died Monday, March 29, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. He was 58.
A native of Greenwood, Mr. Hunter was a resident of Vicksburg. He had been employed at Delta Muffler in Memphis for 20 years and Delta Muffler in Vicksburg for 10 years. He was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George Ray and Lottie Mae Williams Hunter; a son, Ron Keith Hunter; two sisters, Elvie S. Cummings and Shirley Mae Hunter; and a grandson, Austin Christian Hunter.
Survivors include two sons, Charles Kelly Hunter Jr. and Terry Glenn Hunter, both of Vicksburg; two daughters, Amanda Diane Hunter of Vicksburg and Lori Michelle Manues of Rolling Fork; a brother, Phil Hunter of Delta, La.; and 16 grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at a later date.
Fisher Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
J.B. Middleton
REDWOOD J.B. Middleton died Tuesday, March 30, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. He was 71.
A native of McComb, Mr. Middleton had lived in Jackson before moving to Redwood 44 years ago. He was a graduate of Hinds Junior College, where he was a member of the football team. He served in the 1st division of the Marine Corps.
Mr. Middleton retired from Westinghouse Corp. and Cooper Lighting after 38 years of service. He was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, a Senior Adult Choir member and leader of the Senior Saints.
He was preceded in death by his parents, J.M. and Natalie Andrews Middleton; and a daughter, Nelda Gaye Middleton.
Survivors include his wife, Vivian B. Middleton of Redwood; a son, Jay M. Middleton of Vicksburg; three daughters, Pamela M. Hawthorne of Richland, Miss., Natalie Middleton McGaha of Vicksburg and Michele M. Stark of Jackson; and 11 grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Woodlawn Baptist Church with the Rev. Kent Campbell and Durwood “Step” Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. Thursday until the service at the church.
Pallbearers will be Jon Harris Ables, Thad Ables, Durwood Graham, Earl Leggett, William Cook and Carroll Smith.
Honorary pallbearers will be the men’s Sunday school Adult 5 class and members of the Senior Saints.
Memorials may be made to the Baptist Children’s Village or Woodlawn Baptist Church.
Minnie Bell Thompson
EDWARDS Services for Minnie Bell Thompson will be at 1 p.m. Friday at St. Mark Baptist Church in Edwards. Burial will follow at Greenhill Cemetery under the direction of Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from noon until 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Thompson died Saturday, March 27, 2004, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. She was 77.
A housekeeper, Mrs. Thompson was a resident of Edwards.
She is survived by three sons, Walter J. Thompson of Broadview, Ill., Freddie Thompson of Chicago and Carl Thompson of Kennesaw, Ga.; three daughters, Margaret Donald and Debbie Thompson, both of Edwards, and Christine Turner of Harvey, Ill.; and four adopted children, Fannie Thompson, Markeith Thompson, Michienda Thompson and Craig Coins, all of Edwards.
