Gary E. Carter

Gary E. Carter died Friday, April 30, 2004, in Murfreesboro, Tenn. He was 43.

Reared in Jackson, Mr. Carter lived in Vicksburg. He was a 1977 graduate of Mississippi Baptist Academy. He attended Hinds Junior College and graduated from Mississippi College in 1983. He attended New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.

Mr. Carter served in the bus ministry at Parkway Baptist Church and was a youth minister at Easthaven Baptist Church in Brookhaven. He was a former employee of Jitney Jungle Stores of America and Gateway Rescue Mission in Jackson and the former director of River City Rescue Mission in Vicksburg. He worked for Creating An Environment for Success in Murfreesboro.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin P. and Lena Keith Carter.

Survivors include his wife, Melinda Lea Carter of Vicksburg; his aunts, Marjorie Keith, Mary Jane Barnett and Mary Keith, all of Jackson; and other relatives, including Jim Keith, Vagn Hansen, Glenda Owens, Mike Keith, Nancy Bounds, Roland Lea, Doris Lea, Reggie Lea, Todd Lea, Dwana Lea Wright, Rosanna Lea, Laura Beth Wright, Austin Lea and Coker Wright.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home in Clinton.

Evan Tyree Fields

JACKSON Evan Tyree Fields died Wednesday, April 28, 2004, at Central Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. He was 81.

Born in Utica, Mr. Fields was a resident of Jackson. He attended Utica Institute School and was a barber.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Fields; a daughter, Bobbie Tarvin; two sons, James Allen and Tyree Jackson; two grandchildren, Kilawanda Tarvin and Jimal Tarvin; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at New Poplar Grove Independent Methodist Church in Edwards. Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Lakeover Memorial Funeral Home in Jackson.

Visitation will be from 1 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.
