Hazel Powell Allen
BATON ROUGE Hazel “Nicky” Powell Allen died Tuesday, May 11, 2004, at Our Lady of the Lake Medical Center in Baton Rouge, La. She was 52.
A native of Vicksburg, Mrs. Allen was a 1970 graduate of Rosa A. Temple High School. She was a resident of Baton Rouge. She received a bachelor’s degree in computer science in 1974 from Southern University in Baton Rouge. She retired as a senior computer analyst from Exxon Mobile after 30 years of service.
She was a member of the Baton Rouge Delta Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and served as financial secretary of the Baton Rouge Delta Development Corporation.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Regina T. Powell.
Survivors include her husband, Marvin Allen of Baton Rouge; her father, Harry Powell Sr. of Vicksburg; three stepdaughters, Alycia Allen-Lendo of Austin, Texas, Kaylin Allen Haynes of Baton Rouge and Mariva Allen Chapman of Atlanta, Ga.; two sisters, Brenda Powell Gaskin of Waynesville, Mo., and Penny A. Powell of Vicksburg; three brothers, Harry Powell Jr. of Atlanta, Billy Powell of Jacksonville, Fla., and Michael Powell of Vicksburg.
Services will be at 8 p.m. Sunday at Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church in Baton Rouge. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday under the direction of Winfield Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 3 until 6 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Samuel Clark
Services for Samuel “Goo” Clark will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home with the Rev. Rudy Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Clark died Wednesday, April 12, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. He was 62.
A resident of Vicksburg, Mr. Clark was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, B.L. and Roxie Anna Rogers Clark; a sister, Sallie Mae Williams; maternal grandparents, Maggie and Gene Rogers; and his paternal grandparents, Andrew Clark and Lula Willis.
He is survived by three sons, Samuel Leon Clark, Dennis Clark and Andrew Clark, all of Vicksburg; two daughters, Tisheika Clark of Vicksburg and Naheya Clark of Starkville; two stepdaughters, Tiombe McRunnels of Starkville and Nita Andrews of Vicksburg; two brothers, Johnnie “Bo-Bo” Clark and Edmond Clark, both of Vicksburg; two sisters, Lillie Clark Flagg and Gloriastine Clark, both of Vicksburg; nine grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and others, including Julia Henderson and Marilyn Brown, both of Vicksburg.
Newton Arnold Goings Sr.
Newton Arnold Goings Sr. died Thursday, May 13, 2004, at his home in Vicksburg. He was 65.
A native of Mound, La., Mr. Goings had lived in Vicksburg for 35 years. He was the son of the late Hizzie Lee and Lillie Mae Atkins Goings.
He worked for Boeing Aircraft in Seattle for three years and served as a production planner for Cooper Lighting for 30 years. He served in the Air Force and was a member of Solid Rock Pentecostal Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Annette Goings; a brother, Kenneth Goings; and a sister, Jeannette Goings.
Survivors include two sons, Newton A. Goings Jr. of Bastrop, La., and Steve Goings of Vicksburg; two daughters, Jackie G. Rymer of Vicksburg and Susan Annette Goings-Popowski of Greenville, S.C.; two brothers, Ray Goings of Tallulah and Jerry Goings of Vicksburg; a sister, Patsy G. Townsend of Vicksburg; and five grandchildren.
Services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at Fisher Funeral Home with Billy J. Talbert, pastor of Solid Rock Pentecostal Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.
Visitation will be from 6 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Billy Goings, Mike Goings, Corwayne Townsend, Gary Kline, Tommy Ellis, Lester Pettway and Bill Pettway.
Honorary pallbearer will be Darrell Leach.
Sara Annie Copes Hathorne
OAK GROVE Sara Annie “Diddle” Copes Hathorne died Monday, May 10, 2004, in Sevierville, Tenn. She was 92.
Mrs. Hathorne was born in Richland Parish and was a resident of Sevierville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Matilda Elizabeth Copes; three brothers, John Vernon Copes, Herbert King Copes and M. W. Copes; and three sisters, Lillian Frances Miles, Helen Elizabeth Wood and Violet Lilly Shelton.
She is survived by a daughter Becky Partridge of Sevierville; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Cox Funeral Home in Oak Grove with the Rev. Philip Richards officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Tom Wood, John V. Copes, Charles Copes, Wayne Copes, Ricky Copes and John Hebert Copes.
