Charles Bland

Charles Bland died Monday, May 31, 2004, at the G.V. “Sonny” Montgomery Veterans Administration Hospital in Jackson. He was 61.

Born in Memphis, Mr. Bland lived most of his life in Jackson and had been a Vicksburg resident for the past 25 years. He owned and operated Bland’s Appliance Repair in Vicksburg.

He was an Army veteran and attended Calvary and Berachah Baptist churches. He was a deacon and Sunday school director at Calvary Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Brenda Phelps Bland of Vicksburg; three daughters, Angela Bland and Michelle Bland, both of Jackson, and Dona Sanders of Vicksburg; two sons, Raymond Charles Bland and Timothy Hugh Bland, both of Jackson; two sisters, Sue Whitley of Vicksburg and Linda Aders of Dale, Ind.; two brothers, Roy Bland of Jackson and Gene Bland of Edwards; and 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Revs. Dwight Sibley and Roger Cresswell officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Wednesday until the service at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Michael Sullivan, Charles Luckett, Jimmy Chandler, Tony Barnett, Rusty Bland and Chip Whitley.

Mary Sue Coleman Boozer

Mary Sue Coleman Boozer died Sunday, May 30, 2004, in Rayville, La. She was 58.

A longtime resident of Vicksburg, Mrs. Boozer was a former licensed practical nurse and member of the Church of Christ in Chicago.

She was preceded in death by her father, Henry Coleman Jr.; a brother, Thomas James Jackson; her maternal grandparents, William Monroe Davis and Mary Elizabeth Davis; and her paternal grandparents, Henry Coleman Sr. and Mary Coleman.

Survivors include her husband, Frank Boozer of Chicago; one daughter, Connie Denise Wilbert of Vicksburg; five brothers, Henry Coleman III, Bracey Coleman, William Coleman and Charles E. Coleman, all of Vicksburg, and Leon N. Coleman of Memphis; three sisters, Willie Mae Jackson, Carol Woods and Savannah Coleman, all of Vicksburg; and four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
