Preston Griffin Sr.

Services for Preston “P.G.” Griffin Sr. will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home with Bertha Davenport officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Griffin died Tuesday, June 22, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. He was 87.

A resident of Vicksburg, Mr. Griffin was a World War II veteran and a former employee at Waterways Experiment Station.

He was preceded in death by a son, Preston Griffin Jr.; a daughter, Lillie Mae Kent; his parents, Jim and Bertha Griffin; three brothers, Ed Griffin, James Griffin and Ben Griffin; and three sisters, Annie Lee Wallace, Mary Ollie Wallace and Dorothy Griffin.

Survivors include his wife, Rose Mae Smith Griffin; three daughters, Rosalind Denise Johnson of Liverpool, N.Y., Sherry Ann Johnson of Upper Marlboro, Md., and Pamela Renee McGavin of Chula Vista, Calif.; two sisters, Ora Lee Downing of Chicago and Letha Butler of Washington, D.C.; six grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

George Henry Reed Sr.

Services for George Henry “Jack” Reed Sr. will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Mount Hebron Cemetery in Bovina.

Visitation will be from 1 until 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mr. Reed died Saturday, June 19, 2004, at his home in Vicksburg. He was 67.

Mr. Reed was preceded in death by two daughters, Angela Reed and Michelle Reed; his parents, Ira and Mary Frances Ewell Reed; a sister, Virginia Ivory; and a brother, Lenard Bouregard Cook.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Georgia Lee Reed; a son, George Henry Reed Jr. of Vicksburg; two daughters, Jackie Reed and Donna K. Reed, both of Vicksburg; two brothers, Archie “Bruce” Reed of Vicksburg and Robert Lee Reed of Sand Springs, Okla.; three sisters, Katie M. Reed for Vicksburg, Rosie L. Nelson of Jackson and Ivory Rushing of Country Club Hills, Ill.; two grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, cousins, foster children, other relatives and friends.

Lugenia Williams Rowan

FAYETTE Lugenia Williams “Puddin” Rowan died Sunday, June 20, 2004, at Natchez Community Hospital. She was 77.

Mrs. Rowan was born in Jefferson County and was a longtime resident of Fayette. A homemaker, she was a member of Rose Hill M.B. Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Rowan Sr.; a brother, Alphonse Williams; a sister, Cora W. Doss; and one son, Sylvester Johnson.

She is survived by five sons, Lorell Johnson, Pernell Rowan and Willie Rowan Jr., all of Fayette, Maurice Johnson of Chicago and Wilbert Williams of Dolton, Ill.; three daughters, Patricia Perryman, Paulette Haley and Ophelia Rowan, all of Fayette; four brothers, Gus Gilchrist of Fayette, Ezekiel Williams of Las Vegas, Sam Williams of Jacksonville, Ark., and Henry Williams of Calumet, Ill.; 19 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends, including Margaret Havard and Deloris Frye.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Rose Hill M.B. Church No. 2 in Fayette with the Rev. James Beverly officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Israel Cemetery in Fayette.

Visitation will be from 1 until 8 tonight at Rollins Chapel in Fayette.

Pallbearers will be Michael January, Bernard Reed, Ellis King, Bryant Green and Ricky Banks.

Honorary pallbearers will be Desmond Perryman, Terrell Curtis, Derix Perryman, Canevis Drew, Adonus Williams and Henry Eric Williams.

Georgia Frances Sharbrough

ROLLING FORK Georgia Frances Sharbrough died Wednesday, June 23, 2004, at St. Dominic’s Hospital in Jackson. She was 67.

Born in Vicksburg, Miss Sharbrough was a resident of Rolling Fork. She graduated from Rolling Fork High School, attended Mississippi State College for Women and graduated from Delta State University.

She taught home economics at Rolling Fork High School for 31 years and was a member of First Baptist Church of Rolling Fork, where she had been a Sunday school teacher for over 40 years. She was a former president of the Rolling Fork Garden Club, a life member of The Garden Club of Mississippi and was a member of the Mississippi and South Delta Retired Teachers Associations.

Survivors include her mother, Georgia Shepherd Sharbrough Gray of McComb; two brothers, Joseph H. Gray of Flowood and William H. Gray of Pearl; a sister, Cynthia Gray Westbrook of McComb; two nephews and a niece; and others.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church of Rolling Fork with the Revs. Reese Kyzar and Millard Caulder officiating. Burial will follow at Mound Cemetery under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. Friday until the service at the church.

Pallbearers will be Robert McAfee, Thad Virden, Andy Anderson, Eddie Holcomb, Clark Carter, John Abney, Jerry Grant, Marlin Nichols and Dewayne Woods.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. John Studdard, Dr. Russell Young, Jimmy Dick Carter, Lawrence Carter, Jimmy Walker, Jimmy Mayes, Lyle Bennett, Ben Lamensdorf, Virgil Wells and Dr. Ann Whitehearst.

Joseph Henry White

Services for Joseph Henry “JoJo” White will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at New Mount Zion M.B. Church, 517 Feld St., with the Rev. Robert L. Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Saturday until the service at the church.

Mr. White died Thursday, June 17, 2004, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in New Orleans. He was 54.

Mr. White was employed at Central Asphalt Co. He was a member of New Mount Zion M.B. Church and a veteran of the Army.

He was preceded in death his parents, Otha and Susie Paulding White, and a brother, Leroy Milton.

He is survived by a son, Jarvis Jamal White of Vicksburg; two brothers, the Rev. Willie White of Vicksburg and Nathaniel Ervin of Detroit; a sister, Hattie White Huntley of Vicksburg; and nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives, including Charles Turner.
