[7/15/04]Three people were dead at mid-morning at the scene of a two-vehicle wreck on U.S. 61 North, about two miles north of the Warren County line.
“There don’t appear to be any survivors,” said Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace.
The names of those killed were not released.
Pace said both vehicles were badly damaged.
“Deputy Johnny Beauchamp was the first to arrive on the scene, and he said it appeared that the two trucks collided on the highway,” Pace said.
At the scene, Mississippi Highway Patrol Trooper Wayne Smith said it appeared a white Ford F250 with a Washington County tag was southbound when it collided with a northbound truck, that may have been a pickup or larger model, with a Louisiana tag. The northbound truck was pulling a trailer.
Two people were in the pickup with the Mississippi tag. One person was in the truck with the Louisiana tag, Pace said.
The wreck was reported to 911 dispatchers at 9:11 when Issaquena County officers requested assistance from Warren County emergency officials.
Emergency officials from Sharkey, Issaquena and Warren counties were on the scene. Those from Warren County were delayed briefly in their response because a double-wide mobile home was being towed across the Yazoo River Bridge.
The Mississippi Highway Patrol was investigating the wreck, and the Issaquena County coroner, Shelia McFarland, was on her way to the scene this morning.
