Elaine Westcott Brown

Elaine Westcott Brown died Sunday, July 18, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. She was 68.

Born in Phoenix, Miss., to the late Clyde and Hilda Hampton Westcott, Mrs. Brown was a resident of Vicksburg and a member of Grace Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, A.M. “Doc” Brown.

Survivors include a daughter, Elana Gullett of Vicksburg; three sons, Clyde Brown of Sulphur, La., and Mark Brown and Ronnie Brown, both of Vicksburg; four sisters, Shirley Levy of Lafayette, La., Wilma Spellmeyer of Palmersville, Tenn., Phyllis Farragut of Dallas, Texas, and Susan Beard of Vicksburg; a brother, Carl Westcott of Dallas; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Riles Funeral Home with the Rev. Frank Lescallette, pastor of Trinity Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Yokena Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Eric Brown, Chris Brown, Jeffory Brown, Matt Gullett, Troyce Gullett, David Brown, Allan Brown and Tabatha Brown.

Memorials may be made to Jacob’s Ladder Learning Center, 1017 Harrison St., Vicksburg, MS 39180.

Mary Lee Williams Cooksey

Mary Lee “Mae-Mae” Williams Cooksey died Monday, July 19, 2004, at her home. She was 61.

A Vicksburg resident, Mrs. Cooksey was a homemaker and a member of the Adult Choir at Beech Grove M.B. Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roosevelt Cooksey; her parents, Alex and Ruth Nix Williams; and a brother, Ray Williams.

Survivors include three daughters, Lydia Myers, Ramona Bryant and Patricia Hemphill, all of Vicksburg; four brothers, Eddie Williams, James Williams, Alfred Williams and Dillard Williams, all of Vicksburg; four sisters, Rosa Turner, Estella Brooks and Vera Guidry, all of Vicksburg, and Ellen Williams of Homer, La.; three grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Willie W. Harris Jr.

Services for Willie W. Harris Jr. will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Greater Oak Grove M.B. Church with the Rev. Douglas Bryant officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Williams Funeral Service.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Harris died Saturday, July 17, 2004, at his home. He was 60.

He was a member of Greater Oak Grove M.B. Church, where he served as an usher. He retired from the Army after 21 years of service and was a former employee of Waterways Experiment Station.

He was preceded in death by his father, Willie W. Harris Sr.; a brother, George C. Harris; a sister, Katherine Ransone; and a daughter, Rebecca Harris.

Survivors include his wife, Donzie L. Harris of Vicksburg; three sons, Walter Harris of Vicksburg, Dion Harris of Hattiesburg and Willie W. Harris III of Italy; a daughter, LaDonna Burks of Vicksburg; his mother, Katie Sanders Harris of Vicksburg; two brothers, Richard Harris of Vicksburg and Charles Harris of Maintz, Germany; three sisters, Annie Lee Prince, Shirley Porter and Susie Myers, all of Vicksburg; nine grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and other relatives and friends.

Mary Faye Newcomer

DELHI Mary Faye Newcomer died Sunday, July 18, 2004, at Hilltop Nursing Center in Pineville, La. She was 89.

A Louisiana native, Mrs. Newcomer had lived in Richland Parish near Delhi for most of her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse Frank Fuller Sr. and Laverne Jones Fuller; her husband, Jesse Bee Newcomer Sr.; and brothers and a sister.

She is survived by her son, Jesse Bee Newcomer Jr. of Alexandria, La.; a sister, Margie Fuller of Bastrop, La.; a brother, Jim Fuller of Bastrop; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

Services were at 10 a.m. today at First Baptist Church in Delhi with Dr. Marcus Murphy officiating. Burial followed at the Delhi Masonic Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Johnny Fuller, Richard Newcomer, Devin Newcomer, Mark Newcomer, Kent Fuller and Scott Newcomer.

Edward Nauen Nelson

WHITTIER, N.C. Edward Nauen Nelson died Friday, July 16, 2004, in Whittier, N.C. He was 60.

A native of Vicksburg, Mr. Nelson had lived in Moscow, Tenn., for 28 years before moving to Whittier. He was a Marine Corps veteran and retired as a controller at Smurffitt Stone Container Corp. after 30 years.

He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Evans Nelson of Whittier; a daughter, Holly Nelson Joiner of Martinez, Ga.; a sister, Betty Rose Simon of Houston, Texas; a grandson; and other relatives.

Services were at 5 p.m. Monday at Moody Funeral Home in Sylva, N.C., with the Revs. Paul Christy and Phyllis Glahn officiating. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Bellevue Memorial Park in Grovetown, Ga., under the direction of Platts Funeral Home in Evans, Ga.

Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home in Evans.
