George E. Chung died Wednesday, July 28, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. He was 57.

A lifelong resident of Vicksburg, Mr. Chung graduated from Jackson State University, where he majored in music. He was an educator in the Vicksburg School System. He was a lector and a member of the choir at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jack Stewart.

Survivors include his mother, Bertha Richardson Singleton; a son, Sylvester O’Neil of Vicksburg; five sisters, Nancy Pendry of Sumter, S.C., Pinkye Stewart of Vicksburg, Jill Dow of Dallas, Texas, Kathy Greene of Jackson, Margaret Kimbrough of Flower Mound, Texas, and Faye Washington of Yazoo City; four brothers, Willie Chung Jr. of Fayetteville, N.C., Billie Stewart of San Diego, Calif., Tommy Wynn of Fort Worth, Texas, and Charles Stewart of Oklahoma; nieces, nephews and cousins; and other relatives and friends.

Robbins Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

James Jessie Dorsey

ROLLING FORK James Jessie Dorsey died today, July 30, 2004, in Lake Providence. He was 72.

A resident of Rolling Fork, Mr. Dorsey was a retired farmer and a member of Mount Olive M.B. Church in Egremont.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Dorsey; his parents, Eugene Dorsey and Anna McReynolds Dorsey Howard; and a brother, Eugene Dorsey.

Survivors include his wife, Emma Walls Dorsey of Rolling Fork; four sons, the Rev. Willie J. Dorsey of Rolling Fork, Billy Dorsey and the Rev. Michael Dorsey, both of Vicksburg, and the Rev. Carl Dorsey of Hollandale; three daughters, Audrey Dorsey Davis of Vicksburg, Jeanette Dorsey of Rolling Fork and LaTonya Dorsey Richardson of Brandon; two brothers, Henry Dorsey of Cary and Paul Dorsey of Albuquerque N.M.; four sisters, Lorraine Howard of Phoenix, Ariz., and Hattie Griffin Alma Dorsey and Lacey Benjamin; 12 grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins; and other relatives.

Helane DuBowy

Helane DuBowy died Sunday, July 25, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. She was 87.

A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., Mrs. DuBowy was the daughter of the late Petro and Anna Laskowa Pleskiewicz. She had been a longtime resident of Staten Island, N.Y., before moving to Vicksburg three years ago. She was of the Roman Catholic faith.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul DuBowy; two sisters; and two brothers.

Survivors include a son, Paul DuBowy of Vicksburg; and a sister, Theresa Figler of Staten Island.

Visitation will be from 2 until 4 p.m. Saturday at Riles Funeral Home. Burial will be at Moravian Cemetery in Staten Island.

Corine Evans

Corine Evans died Friday, July 30, 2004, at Shady Lawn Nursing Home. She was 53.

Born in Rolling Fork, Miss Evans was retired from the Corps of Engineers and was a former Wal-Mart greeter. She was a missionary and a former member of the Adult Choir at Wayside Apostolic Church of Deliverance.

She was preceded in death by her father, Dan Evans Sr.; a sister, Delores Hoggatt; a brother, Henry Evans; her maternal grandparents, Sam and Amanda Hobbs; and her paternal grandparents, Caleb and Charlotte Evans.

Survivors include a daughter, Deidra C. Evans of Vicksburg; her mother, Corine Evans of Vicksburg; six brothers, Dan Evans Jr. of Riverside, Calif., James Evans, Ike Evans, Donnal Ray Evans and Leonard McGee, all of Chicago, Alvin Evans of Greenville and Reginal Evans of Laurel; six sisters, Yvonne J. Holmes of Norwood, Mo., Doretha Evans of Inglewood, Calif., Amanda Diggs of Rolling Fork, Rebecca Johnson and Evelyn Dent, both of Vicksburg and Commie Evans of Chicago; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins; and other relatives and friends.

Louise Franklin

Louise “Mo’Dear” Franklin died Thursday, July 29, 2004, at her home. She was 92.

A lifelong resident of the Bovina community, Mrs. Franklin was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. She was a teacher and a homemaker. She worked for 20 years to restore Beulah Cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Watson R. Franklin; a son, Rufus Washington; two daughters, Ledora Franklin and Jo Evelyn Franklin Walker; two sisters, Ivory Jones Sanders and Ruth Jones Gaskin; four brothers, David Jones, James Jones, Benjamin Jones and Horace Jones Jr.; and a granddaughter, Toni Patricia Walker.

Survivors include two daughters, Doris Franklin Williams of Cleveland, Ohio, and Pauline Patricia Franklin Williams of Vicksburg; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Gertrude Green

Services for Gertrude Green will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home with the Rev. Frank Gardner Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Green died Wednesday, July 28, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. She was 86.

Born in Port Gibson, she was a resident of Vicksburg.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Elias Winfield and Tom Green; her parents, Sam and Patsy Moran; three sons, Tommy Green, Judge Robert L. Moran Sr., and James E. Winfield Sr.; and a brother, James Eros Moran.

Survivors include four sons, L.T. Moran Jr., Johnny Moran and Nathan Green, all of Vicksburg, and Willie Green of Kosciusko; four daughters, Patsy Gibbs, Christine Moran Phillips and Azilee Green, all of Vicksburg, and Matilda Miles of Tiptonville, Tenn.; 27 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends, including the Davis, Thomas, Taylor, Smith, Walker and Brown families.
