LAKE PROVIDENCE Richard Howard died Wednesday, July 28, 2004, in Lake Providence. He was 62.
Mr. Howard was a resident of Lake Providence.
He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Keener Howard Sr.
Survivors include his wife, Judy Whitaker Howard of Lake Providence; four daughters, Holly Ann Howard and Lura Margaret Howard, both of Lake Providence, Billie Clair Kolman of Indianapolis, Ind., and Adrienne Brooks Parker of Searcy, Ark.; two sons, Byron Keener Howard and Richard Hunter Howard, both of Dallas, Texas; his mother, Eloise Aden Howard of Lake Providence; three sisters, Linda Senter of Terry, Penny Lassetter of Houston, Texas, and Susan Holloway of Tallulah; two brothers, Robbie Howard and Brian Howard, both of Lake Providence; five grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of Lake Providence with Dr. Neal Raborn officiating. Burial will follow at Providence Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home in Lake Providence.
Visitation will be from 6 until 8 tonight at the church.
Pallbearers will be Charlie Sligh, Alan Dunn, Dick Miller, Gene Edmondson, Bo Howard, Buddy Oldner, Leroy Pitts, Cleason Robertson and Dave Taylor.
Rev. U.J. Moffett Jr.
Services for the Rev. U.J. Moffett Jr. will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Little Zion M.B. Church in Edwards. Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Williams Funeral Service.
Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.
Rev. Moffett died Friday, July 23, 2004, at Vicksburg Trace Haven Nursing Home. He was 70.
He was a member of St. Luke M.B. Church and was a truck driver with S.P. Browning Trucking Company and Thigpen Trucking Company.
He was preceded in death by his parents, U.J. and Irene Grafton Moffett; and two brothers, Laurence Moffett and Samuel Moffett.
Survivors include Ida Moffett of Vicksburg; four sons, Richard Martin of Jackson and U.J. Moffett III, Michael Moffett and Christopher Moffett, all of Vicksburg; three daughters, Beverly Slater, Cynthia Moffett and Tiffany Moffett, all of Vicksburg; three brothers, the Rev. Issac Moffett of Muskegon, Mich., David Moffett of St. Louis, and the Rev. Will Moffett of Vicksburg; a sister, Goldia M. Revies of Jackson; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and other relatives and friends, including Joyce Allen of Vicksburg and Deloris Allen of Mapleton, Ga.
Mary Lee Ricks
KENNER, La. Mary Lee “Lou” Ricks died Sunday, July 25, 2004, at Kenner Regional Medical Center in Kenner, La. She was 66.
Born in Vicksburg, Mrs. Ricks had been a resident of Kenner for 45 years. She was a homemaker and a member of Oakland Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie Joe and Sylvia Givens Jones; two sons, Michael Lee Ricks and Jessie James Ricks Jr.; two brothers, Cleveland Jones and Willie Joe Jones Jr.; and a sister, Mary Ellen Jones.
She is survived by her husband, Jessie James Ricks Sr.; two sons, Jimmie Ricks and Tommy Lee Ricks; a daughter, Mary Dobard of Algiers, La.; three brothers, John W. Jones of Vicksburg and James W. Jones and Robert E. Jones, both of New Orleans; three sisters, Willie J. Sims of Vicksburg, Ethel J. Taylor of New Orleans and Rose J. Ben of Bridge City, La.; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Oakland Baptist Church in Kenner with the Rev. Charles Hurst officiating. Burial will follow at Providence Memorial Park in Metairie, La., under the direction of Richardson Funeral Home of Jefferson in River Ridge, La.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Saturday until the service at the church.
George Arthur Scott Sr.
OAK GROVE George Arthur Scott Sr. died Thursday, July 29, 2004, at his home in Oak Grove. He was 75.
Mr. Scott was preceded in death by a son, Arthur Scott; his parents, Jesse Jabe and Clara G. Scott; two brothers, Adrian Scott and Billy Caldwell; and a grandson, Scotty Scott.
Survivors include his wife, Joy Caldwell Scott of Oak Grove; three daughters, Jenni Scott Robertson of Lake Providence, Ann Scott French of Monroe and Amy Jabe Scott of Oak Grove; a sister, Edythe Scott Russell of Winnsboro, La.; a brother, Jesse Scott of Winnsboro; eight grandchildren; nieces and nephews and other relatives.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Cox Funeral Home in Oak Grove with the Revs. Kenneth Boyd and Paul Ninemire officiating. Burial will follow at Harris Cemetery in Crowville, La.
Visitation will be from 5 until 9 tonight at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Brent Gordy, Keith Gordy, Kyle Russell, Scott Ashley, Ray Glasscock and Elliott Sutherland.
