Rabbi Albert Friedlander

LONDON Rabbi Albert Friedlander died Thursday, July 8, 2004, in London. He was 77.

Rabbi Friedlander was born in Berlin, Germany, escaping to Cuba in 1939 during the Nazi invasion. He settled in Vicksburg with his parents in 1942.

He graduated in 1944 from Carr Central High School and attended the University of Chicago. He had been a London resident since 1966.

He was rabbi emeritus of Westminster Synagogue in London and served as dean of Leo Baeck College. He was also president of The Counsel of Christians and Jews.

Rabbi Friedlander had authored 12 books and received decorations from the queen of England and president of Germany for his work to reconcile relationships strained by the Holocaust. He served as editor of European Judaism magazine.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; three daughters; a brother, Charles Friedlander; and his sister, Dorrit Friedlander of Appleton, Wis.

Carl Anthony Patterson

Carl Anthony “C.A.P.” Patterson died Sunday, July 11, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. He was 50.

A resident of Vicksburg, Mr. Patterson was a 1972 graduate of Warren Central High School. He was a truck driver with the Warren County Highway Department and a member of the usher board at Gospel Temple M.B. Church. He played bass guitar with Total Experience Band.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jearlean Patterson; his father, Pinkston Patterson; a brother, James D. Patterson; his maternal grandparents, Homer and Minnie Pearl Jones; and his paternal grandparents, Matt and Rose Green Patterson.

Survivors include a daughter, Stephanie Woods of Vicksburg; a son, Carl Smith of Vicksburg; a stepdaughter, Tamara Hull of Georgia; a stepson, Kenneth Washington of Kentucky; his mother, Willie Mae Jones Patterson of Vicksburg; four brothers, James Patterson, Freddie Patterson, Willie Patterson Jr. and Charles Patterson, all of Vicksburg; two sisters, Rosemary Craft and Vivian Diane Patterson, both of Vicksburg; five grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins; and other relatives and friends.

W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Kerry Lynn Walley

DELHI Kerry Lynn Walley died Sunday, July 11, 2004. He was 44.

Born in Delhi, Mr. Walley was reared in the Goodwill area of West Carroll Parish. He was a former announcer with KWCL in Oak Grove and spent a number of years in the Monroe area as printer and purchasing agent for the City of Monroe Traffic Department. He was also a former employee of Scott Truck & Tractor Co.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse James Walley and Helen Williamson Mullican Walley, and his wife, Janet Emery Walley.

Survivors include two brothers, Roy Mullican of West Monroe and James Mullican of Oak Grove; two sisters, Aline Hurley of Delhi and Catherine Smith of Casa Grande, Ariz.; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Cox Funeral Home of Delhi with the Revs. Bill Echols and Gayle Riles officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Ed Ryland, David Furr, Scott Roberts, Larry Earwood, Jesse Fulmer and Dennis Parker.
