REDWOOD Ray Monroe died Friday, Aug. 13, 2004, at G.V. “Sonny” Montgomery Veterans Administration Hospital in Jackson. He was 80.

Mr. Monroe had been employed with Anderson-Tully and was a resident of Redwood.

He was preceded by his parents, Bessie Herron and James Lacey Monroe Sr.; and a brother, James Lacey Monroe Jr.

Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Monroe Sutton and Betty Monroe Chen, both of Cleveland, Ohio; two sons, Derrick Monroe of Los Angeles and Ray Monroe Stewart Jr. of Rolling Fork; three brothers, George Monroe of New York and Weldon Monroe and John Monroe, both of Louisville, Ky.; two sisters, Ollie Brown of Ohio and Emmalee Covington of Louisville; and nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Herma Jean Norton Odom

PATTISON Herma Jean Norton Odom died Sunday, Aug. 15, 2004, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. She was 65.

A lifelong resident of Jefferson County, Mrs. Odom was a graduate of the United Vocational High School in Red Lick. She had been employed with the Jefferson County Health Department for 27 years before retiring as office manager in 1999. She attended Unity Baptist Church.

She is survived by William A. Smith of Pattison; a daughter, Yvette B. Dimmette of Abbeville, S.C.; a sister, Gladys Jordan of Baton Rouge, La.; a grandson; and two nieces.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Unity Baptist Church with the Revs. Frank Leggett and Dalton Haggan officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home in Port Gibson.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Mary Dees Posey

PHILADELPHIA Mary Dees Posey died Monday, Aug. 16, 2004, at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center in Meridian. She was 79.

A resident of Philadelphia, Mrs. Posey had been a dental assistant for a number of years and was a member of First United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by two daughters, Pam Posey Sharp and Patricia Posey.

Survivors include her husband, Dr. Rudolph Adam Posey Sr. of Philadelphia; a son, Dr. Rudolph Adam Posey Jr. of Philadelphia; a daughter, Jane Posey Giffin of Vicksburg; a sister, Johnnie Coulson of Brandon; and nine grandchildren.

Services will be at 3 p.m. today at McClain-Hays Funeral Service in Philadelphia with the Revs. Bill McAlilly and Jerry Beam officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarlawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be until the service today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to a favorite charity.

Buford Varnell Rose

OAK GROVE Buford Varnell Rose died Sunday, Aug. 15, 2004, at West Carroll Memorial Hospital in Oak Grove. He was 64.

Mr. Rose was a resident of Oak Grove.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mattie Lee Rose; and his parents, Horace Rose and Esther Ora Rainwater.

Survivors include two sons, Buford Allen Rose Sr. of Oak Grove and Jeffrey Rose of Grady, Ark.; three daughters, Rebecca Rose James of De Ridder, La., Rachel Rose of Eudora, Ark., and Charlotte Bailey Myers of Oak Grove; three brothers, Herbert Rose of Abita Springs, La., Jay Rose of Kilbourne and Jimmy Rose of Ruston, La.; a sister, Mary Warner of Oak Grove; and 16 grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Cox Funeral Home in Oak Grove. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.

His grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Benton Ross Jr.

Benton Ross Jr. died Monday, Aug. 16, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. He was 65.

Born in Vicksburg to the late Benton Sr. and Mittie Ann Ross, Mr. Ross was a member of Zion Travelers Baptist Church. He was retired from Kansas City Southern Railway.

Survivors include his wife, Georgia Carson Ross of Vicksburg; six sons, Angelo Benton Ross of San Francisco, Calif., Kenneth Earl Ross of Jackson and Jeffery Lee Ross, Benton Ross III, Jason Eugene Ross and Robert Earl Collins, all of Vicksburg; seven daughters, Patricia Ann Wright of Arlington, Texas, Carla Renea Conley of Jacksonville, Fla., Mary E. Jones of Memphis and Shirely Jean Ross, Wanda Kay Demby, Bernice Collins and Tiffany Beneedra Ross, all of Vicksburg.

Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
