Tyrone Allen

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. Tyrone Allen, formerly of Edwards, died Friday, Aug. 13, 2004, at his home in Birmingham, Ala. He was 38.

He is survived by his mother, Zelma Phillips of Edwards; his father, Robert Earl Williams of Edwards; his stepfather, James McPhearson of Jackson; a daughter, LaVonch Monique Williams of Edwards; one brother, James F. McPhearson of Washington, D.C.; two sisters, Barbara Hodge and Tina McPhearson Brookshire, both of Edwards; and other relatives and friends.

Luella Verneal Thompson Carter

Luella Verneal Thompson Carter died Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. She was 51.

Mrs. Carter was preceded in death by her mother, Willie Mae Lewis, and a brother, Daniel Lewis.

She is survived by her husband, Horace Carter of Los Angeles; two sons, Johnny Williams of Jackson and Jessie Lewis of Vicksburg; a daughter, Amanda Lewis of Vicksburg; her grandmother, Luvices Johnson of Waterproof, La.; four brothers, Dewitt Lewis and Delaware Lewis, both of New Orleans, Willie Lewis of Los Angeles and Robert Lewis of Waterproof; three sisters, Eveleaner Lewis and Jackie Lewis, both of Slidell, La., and Virginia Louis Birks of New Orleans; six grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and other relatives and friends, including members of the Williams, Cox, Harris, Bell and Kennedy families.

Lelon M. McMillan

OAK GROVE Lelon M. McMillan died Monday, Aug. 16, 2004, at North Monroe Hospital in Monroe. He was 82.

Born in Lawrenceburg, Tenn., Mr. McMillan was a resident of Oak Grove. He was a member of the Central Church of Christ in Bastrop, La.

A veteran of World War II, Mr. McMillan served as a seaman 1st class aboard the USS Meaker in the European and Pacific theaters. He was a bus driver for the West Carroll Parish School Board for 23 years. He was a farmer and cattleman.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Willie Marie McMillan; his parents, Morris Maclain McMillan and Zuleamer McKinney McMillan; a brother, Don McMillan; and a sister, Valton Hemphill.

Survivors include his daughter, Dianne Rouse of Oak Grove; two brothers, Murlin McMillan of Waco, Texas, and Lurlin McMillan of Forney, Texas; a sister, Velma Galordo of Alexandria, La.; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Cox Funeral Home in Oak Grove with Waymon Swain and Joe Nichols officiating. Burial with veterans’ honors will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.

Visitation will be until 9 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Calvin Pierce, Harold Tucker, Pip Pippen, Ryan Brister, Ricky Brister and Richard Brister.

Mary E. Tena White

OAK GROVE Mary E. “Tena” White died Monday, Aug. 16, 2004, at St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe. She was 66.

Mrs. White was born in West Carroll Parish.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Stanley “Buck” White; her parents, Ernest Hill and Mary Gertrude Taylor Hill; and two brothers, Garland “Bubby” Hill and John Taylor Hill.

She is survived by two sons, Ernest Floyd White of West Monroe and Stanley Glynn White of Clarksville, Tenn.; one brother, Hollis “Hawk” Hill of Oak Grove; one sister, Sidney Frances Smith of Dubach, La.; and four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Services will be at 4 p.m. Thursday at Cox Funeral Home in Oak Grove with the Rev. Leslie Yates officiating. Burial will follow at Macedonia Cemetery near Oak Grove.

Visitation will be from 4 until 9 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be nephews.
