Pearline Brent

HARVEY, La. Pearline Brent died Thursday, Oct. 7, 2004, at West Jefferson Hospital in Marrero, La. She was 69.

Born in Utica to the late Will Ann Chillies and Samuel Chatman, Mrs. Brent was a resident of Harvey, La. She was a member of Solid Rock Church of God in Christ.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J.M. Brent; a son, Walter Brent Sr.; and a brother, Alex Hunter.

Survivors include three sons, Cleveland Brent of Houston, Texas, and James Brent and Mike Brent, both of Harvey; three daughters, Betty Jo Wilson of Raceland, La., Wilane Hall of Gretna, La., and Shortel Brent of Houston; four sisters, Marie Davenport Schneider of Franfort, Germany, Josephine Walker and Louise Frazier, both of Marrero, and Annie Mae Hunter of Greenville; a brother, Frank Hunter of Marrero; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and other relatives, including the Woods, Martin, McGowan and Brent families, all of Vicksburg.

Services will be at noon Saturday at Second Union M.B. Church in Utica with Arthur Clayton III officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Tilly’s Funeral Home in New Orleans.

Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. Friday at Solid Rock Church of God in Christ in Gretna, La.

Lillian Bernice Baker Brewer

CLINTON Lillian Bernice “Bea” Baker Brewer died Thursday, Oct. 7, 2004, at Central Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. She was 76.

Born in Rankin County, Mrs. Brewer was a resident of Clinton. She attended schools in Pocahontas, Clinton and Raymond before moving to Lincoln County in 1943. She was retired from the Mississippi State Department of Health and Department of Corrections.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Chadwick Brian Brewer.

Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Ernest Brewer of Clinton; three sons, Norman Brewer, Robert Brewer and Ken Brewer, all of Clinton; two daughters, Shirley Williams of Learned and Sheila Wood of Flowood; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and others, including Lilly Wells.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home in Clinton. Burial will follow at Bolton Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. Friday until the service at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Roswell Irving Jr.EDWARDS Roswell “Toada” Irving Jr. died Friday, Oct. 1, 2004, at University Medical Center in Jackson. He was 73.

Mr. Irving was a resident of Edwards.

He was preceded in death by his parents, the Rev. Roswell “Jack” Irving Sr. and Marie Donaldson Irving; and a brother, Embry Irving.

Survivors include a son, Kelvin Irving of Edwards; two daughters, Carla Forte of Vicksburg and Norma “Lynn” Irving-King of Horn Lake; a brother, Dr. William Irving of Augusta, Ga.; and four sisters, Minnie Ruth Morman of Chicago, Lovella Williamson of Tuskegee, Ala., Velma Frizzle of Omaha, Neb., and Roberta Irving-Taylor of Edwards.

Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

James E. Shoenberger

James E. “Jim” Shoenberger died Monday, Oct. 11, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. He was 50.

Born in Palmerton, Pa., Mr. Shoenberger had lived in Vicksburg since 1976 as an Army engineer at Waterways Experiment Station. He began his career with the Geotechnical Laboratory and had worked with the Air Force in Oman on runway construction as part of the war on terrorism.

He received a bachelor’s degree in engineering from Penn State University, a master’s degree in civil engineering from Mississippi State University and a doctorate in civil engineering, pavements, from Louisiana State University.

Mr. Shoenberger was a Scout leader for Troop No. 76 and coached youth soccer and basketball. He played adult soccer, softball, basketball and volleyball, and he was associated with the Vicksburg Swim Association, Warren County Humane Society and Warren Central High School swim team and band.

He was a member of the American Society of Testing Materials, American Society of Civil Engineers, American Association of Pavement Technologists and the Pavement Coatings Technology Center.

He was preceded in death by his father, Elmer Edwin Shoenberger.

Survivors include his wife, Tere DeMoss of Vicksburg; one daughter, Michelle Shoenberger of Vicksburg; one son, Matthew Shoenberger of Vicksburg; his mother, Florence Shoenberger of Palmerton; one brother, David Shoenberger of Palmerton; two sisters, Jane Stroup and Lori Shoenberger, both of Palmerton; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Fisher Funeral Home with the Rev. Terry White, pastor of Bowmar Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be at Green Acres Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ron Wahl, Jose Llopis, Rick Shafer, John George and Danny Puett.
