residents lose electrical power

[11/2/04]About 1,100 Entergy customers lost power early this morning due to problems with a local substation shortly after thunderstorms dropped about 1.2 inches of rain on Vicksburg and Warren County.

Entergy spokesman Cheryl Comans said the outage reported around 5:30 was unrelated to the weather, and power was back on in about an hour, she said.

“It was due to an internal failure of equipment on the inside of a substation at east Vicksburg,” Comans said.

Areas effected by the power failure included homes and businesses off Porters Chapel Road and North Frontage Road near Clay Street.

A thunderstorm brought heavy rain through the Warren County area around 3 a.m. Rain is expected to continue into the afternoon and night with the National Weather Service in Jackson calling for a 100 percent chance of showers.

The Louisiana Delta also received heavy rains. East Carroll Parish residents reported some brief power outages.

The rain is being pushed in front of a cold front that is expected to bring more fall-like temperatures into the area. The low tonight is expected to be around 64 with the high Wednesday predicted to reach 66 degrees.

Weather forecasters are calling for a 40 percent chance of rain Wednesday as the front moves in.

High temperatures for the rest of the week are expected to be in the upper 60s with low temperatures dropping below 50.
