Marion Britt Abbott

DELTA Services for Marion Britt Abbott will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Riles Funeral Home with the Rev. Leland Crawford, pastor of First Baptist Church of Waskon, Texas, officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

A native of Vicksburg, Mr. Abbott moved to Marshall, Texas, in the ninth grade, where he graduated from Marshall High School.

He attended Tyler Junior College before moving back to Vicksburg a year ago. He was a construction worker for S and S Construction.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Jeni Kowaluk Thames; his paternal grandparents, Marion Abbott and Robert and Kathleen Beard Abbott Friley; and his maternal grandparents, Charles W. and Lois Cox Davidson.

Survivors include his father and stepmother, Gene and Patsy Abbott of Vicksburg; his mother, Camelia Abbott of Vicksburg; two sisters, Dana Grant of Vicksburg and Kathy Abbott of Pearl; a brother, Charles Guinn of Shreveport, La.; two stepsisters, Rebecca Miller of Thornton, Pa., and Rhonda Davis of Munford, Tenn.; and a stepbrother, Brian Miller of Brandon.

Pallbearers will be Brian Noble, Brad Abbott, Dustin Abbott, Eric Abbott, Adam Arabe and Ryan Cook.

Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.

Ray Anthony Burnett

DECATUR, Ga. Services for Ray Anthony Burnett will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Second Union Baptist Church. Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 2 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.

Mr. Burnett died Friday, Oct. 29, 2004, in Decatur, Ga. He was 43.

A former Vicksburg resident, he had lived in Decatur for four years. He was a self-employed construction worker, a 1979 graduate of Vicksburg High School and attended Second Union M.B. Church.

He was preceded in death by his father, Frank W. Burnett.

Survivors include a son, Jaylen Ray Burnett of Decatur; a daughter, Latoya Campbell of Memphis; his mother, Easter Martin Burnett of Vicksburg; three sisters, Alice Virginia Burnett of Houston, Texas, and Mary Burnett Carter and Loretta Burnett, both of Vicksburg; a granddaughter, Tiah Campbell of Memphis; and other relatives.

Jereline K. Flowers

PORT GIBSON Jereline K. “Shorty” Flowers died Monday, Nov. 1, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. She was 77.

A native of Boyle, Mrs. Flowers was a resident of Port Gibson. She was a member and former usher at Morning Star M.B. Church in Lorman, where she served with the Baptist Aide. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Flowers; one daughter, Bobbie Jean Cook; a brother, Jerry King Jr.; and her parents, Jerry King Sr. and Annie Diew.

Survivors include Betty Sykes, whom she reared, of Chicago; one daughter, Georgia Ann King of Port Gibson; an adopted daughter, Kennicqua H. Flowers of Port Gibson; two brothers, Robert King of Carlisle and George D. King of Utica; a sister, India Mae Wright of San Diego, Calif.; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Gertrude Gray

Gertrude Gray died Saturday, Oct. 30, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. She was 88.

A native of Jackson, Mrs. Gray was a longtime resident of Vicksburg. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Our Lady of Perpetual Help Sodality.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and a brother.

Survivors include her husband of 68 years, Morris Gray; a son, Morris Gray Jr. of Marietta, Ga.; a daughter, Ruthie Gray McCoy of Vicksburg; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Charles Boykins officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Robbins Funeral Home.

Visitation will be until 7 tonight, followed by rosary, at the funeral home.

Annie Belle LaForge

OAK GROVE Annie Belle LaForge died Monday, Nov. 1, 2004, at West Carroll Care Center. She was 91.

Miss LaForge was a resident of Oak Grove.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William Prentiss and Vira LaForge.

Survivors include a sister, Verdell Thomas of Bastrop, La.; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Cox Funeral Home in Oak Grove with the Rev. Byron Putnam officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be John Robert Hurley, Wayne LaForge, Harold Thomas, Donald Ray Hurley, Jason Hurley and Jared Hurley.
