A heavy job on Cherry Street

David Ahner, left, with Sanders and Hollingsworth contractors, and Bert Day with the City of Vicksburg’s Traffic Department watch this morning as giant air conditioners are placed on the roof of the Tree House Cafe at 1837 Cherry St., just north of the viaduct. A 40-ton crane blocked both lanes of traffic for about 30 minutes while it lifted the units. The air conditioners weigh 6 to 10 tons each, said Larry Ray, owner of Superior Heating and Air, who installed the units. The restaurant is expected to open after the first of the year.
