Pearl L. Baggett

Pearl L. Baggett died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2005, at River Region Medical Center. She was 67.

Born in Tallahassee, Fla., Mrs. Baggett was a longtime resident of Warren County. She was the daughter of James Louis and Florida Mae Landrum.

She was a member of Wilderness Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Emma Rea Brown, and a brother, Earl Landrum.

She is survived by her husband, David H. Baggett Sr.; one daughter, Kate Raner of Vicksburg; two sons, Louis Henry Baggett and David H. Baggett Jr., both of Vicksburg; one brother, James Henry Landrum of Vicksburg; one sister, Clara Mae Huffty of Vicksburg; four grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Cedar Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Rush Granberry, pastor of Wilderness Baptist Church, and Bobby Conrad officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Riles Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 4830 McWillie Circle, Jackson 39206.

Lucille Phoenix Elmore

Services for Lucille Phoenix “Cille” Elmore will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at New Mount Pilgrim M.B. Church with the Rev. Henry Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 6 p.m. Friday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home and at the church Saturday from 2 p.m. until the service.

Mrs. Elmore died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2005, at River Region Medical Center. She was 83.

A homemaker, Mrs. Elmore was a member of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John H. Elmore; a son, Johnny O’Neal; two daughters, Eliza O’Neal and Rose Mary O’Neal; and her parents, Charles Phoenix and Juanita Botley.

Survivors include two sons, Joseph O’Neal of San Francisco and Charles Phoenix of Columbia, S.C.; four daughters, Beatrice Thomas, Juanita O’Neal, Willie Jane Williams and Florence Kiner, all of Vicksburg; and 60 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Thelma Barnes Husbands

Thelma Barnes Husbands died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2005, at her home. She was 87.

Mrs. Husbands was a lifelong resident of Vicksburg. She was a member of Goodrum Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, W.J. Husbands.

She is survived by a daughter, Jeri Gartman of Vicksburg; a sister, Mary Miller of Vicksburg; and three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Friday until the service at the funeral home.

Glen P. Johnson

Services for Glen P. Johnson will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Fisher Funeral Home with the Revs. Jim Biedenharn, Rusty White and Dural Ragsdale officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Mr. Johnson died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2005, at Belmont Gardens. He was 91.

Born in Enid, Okla., Mr. Johnson was the son of the late Charles Fremont and Ida Grace Randolph Johnson. He graduated from Enid High School and had been a Vicksburg resident most of his life.

He was an Army veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict, serving with Company B-106th Engineers in England, North Africa and Italy. He worked as a property officer at Waterways Experiment Station, retiring in 1973 after 37 years of military and civil service.

Mr. Johnson was a member of Porters Chapel United Methodist Church, where he served as board chairman and Sunday school teacher.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Lillian Johnson Mastronardi; and four brothers, Roy Johnson, Leslie Johnson, Harvey Johnson and Marvin Johnson.

Survivors include his wife, Lucile R. Johnson of Vicksburg; two daughters, Laura J. McCaskill and Carol J. Crabtree, both of Vicksburg; two sons, Peter Johnson of Houston, Texas, and Randy Johnson of Ladson, S.C.; a brother, Charles F. Johnson Jr. of Vicksburg; eight grandchildren; three great-granddaughters; and nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy McCaskill, Billy Crabtree, Winston Holman, James Harper, Wayne McCullough and Tommy Johnson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Fred Grayson, Jack Garner, Perry Young, the Rev. Ed Hightower, members of the Company B 106th Engineers and the Porters Chapel United Methodist Church Men’s Club.
