Damion L. Coleman

PORT GIBSON – Damion L. Coleman died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2005, at University Medical Center in Jackson from injuries received in a motor vehicle accident. He was 17.

Damion was a student at Port Gibson High School, where he played football.

He is survived by his mother, Joyce Coleman of Hermanville; and his father, Joe Dixon of Georgetown.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Port Gibson High School with Victor Dixon officiating. Burial will follow at Barnes Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon until 7 tonight at Westhaven Memorial Funeral Home in Utica.

Ollie M. Cook

Services for Ollie M. Cook will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Oak Chapel M.B. Church with the Rev. Dellie Robinson officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Chapel Cemetery under the direction of W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.

Miss Cook died Friday, Feb. 25, 2005, at River Region Medical Center. She was 93.

A homemaker, Miss Cook was a member of Oak Chapel M.B. Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Elijah Cook and Theresa Redford; and a sister, Ora Owens.

She is survived by one brother, Elex Cook of Vallejo, Calif.; one sister, Ethel Robinson of Vallejo; and nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

Ada Blanche Curtis

ATLANTA – Ada Blanche Curtis died Wednesday, March 2, 2005, at St. Michael Medical Center in Texarkana, Texas.

Mrs. Curtis was born in Drew, Miss. She was a resident of Port Gibson for 14 years. She was a retired nurse and a resident of Vicksburg for almost 40 years. She was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, J.D. Curtis.

She is survived by two daughters, Charlotte Crew of Atlanta, Texas, and Claudette Smith of Vicksburg; her mother, Falba Ragland of Drew, Miss.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Glenwood Funeral Home in Vicksburg with the Rev. Carl Bradford Prewitt officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at Glenwood Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Darrel Brown, Billy Ray Bufkin, Edgar Cain Jr., Scott Crew, Danny Cunningham, Bill Smith, Derek Tillotson and Ellis Tillotson.

JeKendra Maria Curtis

Services for JeKendra Maria Curtis, infant daughter of Kendrick Curtis of Hermanville and Jessica Gardner of Vicksburg, will be at 1 p.m. today at Cedar Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Walter Pittman officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.

JeKendra died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2005, at River Region Medical Center.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Cedric Gardner of Vicksburg; her paternal grandparents, Betty Curtis and Nathaniel Davis of Hermanville; and other relatives.

Lucille Hadwin Lee

TALLULAH – Lucille Hadwin Lee died Wednesday, March 2, 2005, at Madison Parish Hospital. She was 86.

Mrs. Lee was born in Castor, La. She lived in Madison Parish for 64 years as a homemaker. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Tallulah.

She is survived by one son, Rickey C. Lee of Tallulah; two daughters, Joan L. Erwin and Norma Dean Hattaway, both of Tallulah; one sister, Barbara Brothers of Amarillo, Texas; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. John W. Rushing officiating. Burial will follow at Silver Cross Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home in Tallulah.

Great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Otis Eugene McGee

UTICA – Otis Eugene McGee died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2005, at Central Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. He was 72.

Mr. McGee retired as a laborer. He was a Utica resident.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Westhaven Memorial Funeral Home in Utica with the Rev. Rodney Divinity officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Cemetery.

Doris Blount Paine

Doris Blount Paine died Wednesday, March 3, 2005, at River Region Medical Center. She was 77.

Mrs. Paine was a native of Laurel. She was reared in Hattiesburg and was a resident of Vicksburg for more than 50 years. She worked as a beautician at Doris’ for 20 years. After 26 years with the Vicksburg Convalescent Nursing Home, she retired as a licensed practical nurse. For the past 12 years, she had been a secretary for Southside Baptist Church, where she was a member of the school board.

She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Rudolph E. Paine; and a brother, Benny Blount.

She is survived by two daughters, Charlotte Coutch and Vickey White, both of Vicksburg; a brother, Buddy Darrell Blount of Hattiesburg; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Fisher Funeral Home with the Revs. Caley Nichols and Brian Ivey officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Pvt. Anthony Tyrone Powell

ROLLING FORK – Pvt. Anthony Tyrone Powell died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2005, at University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. He was 19.

He served in the National Guard Armory with the 114th Field Artillery.

He is survived by his parents, Marvin Williams and Shirley Powell; both of Rolling Fork; three brothers, Kendrick Powell, Marvin Powell and Travon Powell; all of Rolling Fork; and one sister, Julia Darlisha Powell of Rolling Fork.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Mount Lula M.B. Church in Rolling Fork with the Rev. Elijah Eason officiating.

Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 until 6 p.m. Saturday at Walker Funeral Home in Rolling Fork.

Alvin Sanders Sr.

Alvin “Smoky Sander” Sanders Sr. died Wednesday, March 3, 2005, at Promise Specialty Hospital in Vicksburg. He was 65.

Mr. Sanders was a member of St. Mark Freewill Baptist Church and a former employee of the Holiday Inn.

He was preceded in death by his father, Levi Johnson; his mother and stepfather, Rozena and Otis Avery; a son, Alvin Sanders Jr.; a sister, Vernita S. White; a brother, Stuart Sanders; and a grandson, Joshua Ryan Sanders.

Survivors include his wife, Josephine Sanders of Vicksburg; two daughters, Anquinette Sanders and Sherrie Sanders, both of Vicksburg; a sister, Florence Hunter of Edwards; three grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

Williams Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

James Scott

Services for James “Sonny Dip” Scott will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home with the Rev. Edmond Gibbs officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Scott died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2005, at River Region Medical Center. He was 66.

Mr. Scott was preceded in death by his parents, Stan and Lillie Griffin Scott; and a sister, Ossie Mae Kearney.

He is survived by his wife, Lizzie Mae Lewis of Vicksburg; three stepdaughters, Doris Lewis, Jacqueline Lewis and Ledora Saints, all of Vicksburg; and four sisters, Rosie Wallace, Alberta Selmon and Sarah Robinson, all of Vicksburg, and Leola Moore of Aurora, Ill.

Mark Anthony Smith

ARCOLA – Mark Anthony Smith died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2005, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. He was 36.

He was a resident of Arcola and a former counselor in Clarksdale.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Sunrise M.B. Church in Trailake, Miss., with the Rev. Willie Frazier officiating.

Burial will follow at Sunrise Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 6 tonight at Pilgrim Rest Church in Arcola.

Barbara Nell Allen Stampley

Services for Barbara Nell Allen Stampley will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Calvary Baptist Church with Donald Goodman officiating. Burial, under the direction of Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home, will be private.

Mrs. Stampley died Friday, Feb. 25, 2005, at her home. She was 54.

She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Sterling.
