Ron Christopher Banks

HERMANVILLE – Ron Christopher Banks died Thursday, April 28, 2005, at River Region Medical Center. He was 36.

He was preceded in death by his father, K.C. Woodard.

Survivors include his mother, Lillie Banks Edwards of Hermanville; a stepfather, Luther “Bob” Edwards Jr. of Hermanville; six sisters, Carolyn Ryals and Bobbie Jean Banks, both of Jacksonville, Fla., Victoria Banks of Vicksburg, Debra Green, Marsha Woodard and Karen Woodard, all of Chicago; three brothers, Bob Meagail Banks of Hermanville, Shawn LaDale Banks of Port Gibson and Theodore Corner of New York; two stepsisters, Felicia Jones and Nicole Jackson, both of Oklahoma City, Okla.; two stepbrothers, Luther Edwards III and Willie Edwards, both of Oklahoma City.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at First Christian Church in Hermanville with the Rev. Anthony Berry officiating. Burial will follow at Banks Cemetery under the direction of Rollins Funeral Home in Port Gibson.

Jessie Chiles

A memorial service for Jessie “Duck” Chiles will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Williams Funeral Service.

Mr. Chiles died Tuesday, April 26, 2005, at River Region Medical Center. He was 62.

Mr. Chiles was a retired carpenter. He was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his father, William Chiles.

Survivors include his mother, Lubertha Smith Chiles of Vicksburg; a brother, Edwin Chiles of Vicksburg; a sister, Ann Davis of Memphis; one daughter, Cheryl Thomas White of Vicksburg; and friends and other relatives, including members of the Chiles, Davis and Thomas families of Vicksburg.

James R. Purvis

James R. “Jimmie” Purvis died Thursday, April 28, 2005, at River Region Medical Center. He was 82.

Born in Copiah County, Mr. Purvis was reared in Agricola. He was a veteran of the Navy, serving on the U.S.S. Iowa. He retired from Westinghouse Corp. as a quality control inspector.

He was a member and former deacon at Bovina Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Etta Purvis; a son, Bill Purvis; one sister, Ruby McCann; and four brothers, Hewey Purvis, Grover Purvis, Sidney Purvis and Glen Purvis.

Survivors include two sons, Hewey Purvis and James Purvis, both of Vicksburg; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Chip Starnes officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Ray Melancon, James McGee, Glen Waters, Dennis Garner, Barry Beard and Jim Agent.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Hildon Sessums, Dr. Lee Giffin and Dr. Murray Whitaker.

John Lee Washington

PORT GIBSON – John Lee “Perry” Washington died Saturday, April 23, 2005, at his home. He was 45.

Mr. Washington was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Washington-Jones, and a brother, Robert Brown.

He is survived by his wife, Annie L. Washington of Port Gibson; two daughters, Roshanda Hamilton and Rejonna Hamilton, both of Port Gibson; six sisters, Judy Hamilton and Carolyn Carter, both of Port Gibson, Jerry Ann Smith of Little Rock, Calif., Rose Mary Brown of Inglewood, Calif., Janice Adams of Lavern, Tenn., and Shelly Jones of Nashville, Tenn.; two brothers, Danny Washington of Port Gibson and Bernis Jones of Memphis; one granddaughter; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Rising Sun M.B. Church in Port Gibson with the Rev. Larry Clark officiating. Burial will follow at Thompson Memorial Garden Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 until 5 today and from noon Saturday until the service at Thompson Funeral Home.
