PCA-Union game off; No makeup scheduled|[9/9/05]

Randy Wright tried everything to get his Porters Chapel Eagles onto the field tonight against Union Academy.

He offered to play the game on Friday, or Saturday, even Monday or Tuesday. He offered to play the game at PCA, but have Union as the home team and give them the gate receipts. He tried begging, pleading and spent most of the past three days on a cell phone.

For all his work, Wright will be watching someone else’s game tonight.

“We bent over backward,” Wright said. “It is very disappointing for our kids.”

Union Academy appealed to the MPSA to have the non-district game a forfeit. The Georgetown school is still without power and students won’t return to school until Monday. The game will not be made up.

The decision not to play will have no effect on the team’s records. It means that PCA will play only nine games this year.

Union lost its last game 48-0 to Wayne Academy and has won two games over the past two years – both against Rebul.

Porters Chapel, meanwhile, has scored 98 combined points in its first two wins and allowed zero.
