Charles Lee Aikerson Sr.

Services for Charles Lee Aikerson Sr. will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul M.B. Church in Bovina with the Rev. Tyrone Dixon officiating. Burial will follow at Carbondale Cemetery in Lorman under the direction of Lakeview Funeral Home in Vicksburg. Visitation will be from noon until 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mr. Aikerson died Sunday, Oct. 16, 2005, at River Region Medical Center in Vicksburg. He was 62.

He was a member of St. Paul M.B. Church in Bovina. He retired from Roadway Express in Chicago Heights, Ill., as a truck driver.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Aikerson of Bovina; three sons, Charles Lee Aikerson Jr. and Keith Aikerson, both of Chicago, and Vincent Aikerson of Iraq; four brothers, George Aikerson Jr. of Crystal Springs, Floyd Aikerson of Lorman, Anderson Aikerson of Bessemer, Ala., and Marvin Aikerson of Aurora, Ill.; one sister, Beatrice Ruffin of Vicksburg; three grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

Carrie Collins

Services for Carrie Collins will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at New Mount Pilgrim M.B. Church at Fayette and Poplar streets with the Rev. H.J. Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Jefferson Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Saturday until the hour of service at the church.

Mrs. Collins died Friday, Oct. 14, 2005, at The Care Center of Clinton. She was 99.

She was a homemaker and member of New Mount Pilgrim M.B. Church.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Margaret Green; her husband, Mark Collins; two brothers, Albert Green Sr. and Charlie Green; two sisters, Ella Anderson and Corine Green.

She is survived by nieces and nephews.

Linda Mae Harris

OAK GROVE – Linda Mae Harris died Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2005, at West Carroll Care Center in Oak Grove. She was 77.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Sam Harris; and her parents, Atha Ashley and Virgie May Ashley.

Survivors include one son, Mike Harris of Kilbourne, La.; one sister, Pat Vaughn of Newton; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and other relatives including Tina Willard of Birmingham and Ashley Walters of Brandon.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Kilbourne Pentecostal Church with the Revs. Ronald Ratley and Danny Hawthorn officiating. Burial will follow at Kilbourne Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home in Oak Grove.

Pallbearers will be Paul Schepp, Tom Luse, Tom David Waters, David Garner, Eddie Russell and Ken Owens.

Honorary pallbearers will be the men of Kilbourne Pentecostal Church.

Mable Solomon Jackson

EPPS, La. – Mable Solomon Jackson died Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2005, at her home in Epps, La. She was 83.

Mrs. Jackson was born in Opelika, Ala. She retired as a secretary after working more than 25 years for West Carroll School Systems. She was a member of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, L. L. Jackson; her parents, Solomon R. Solomon and Salemy Maloof Solomon.

Survivors include two sons, Phil Jackson of Epps and Wayne Jackson of West Monroe; one daughter, Paula Hough of Monroe; one sister, Mary Wahlen of Nokesville, Va.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Eddie Guchereau, Don Gwin, Randy Miller, Mark Miller, Kevin Hale and Johnny Simms.

Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Friday at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Delhi with the Rev. Joe Puthuppally officiating. Burial will follow at Epps Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home in Delhi. Visitation will be from 6 until 8 this evening at the funeral home.

Lela B. Jones

CONWAY, Ark. – Lela B. Jones died Sunday, Oct. 16, 2005, in Conway, Ark. She was 90.

Mrs. Jones was born in Carson, Miss. She was a former resident of Epps. She worked as a home economics teacher at Epps High School for more than 39 years. She served as mayor of Epps for two years. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Conway.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Jones; her parents, Joseph and Susie Bullock; and a brother, Preston Bullock.

Survivors include one son, Joseph E. Jones of Bigelow, Ark.; one grandchild; one step-grandchild; two great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 10 this morning at Epps Cemetery with the Rev. Pat Lofton officiating. Cox Funeral Home in Delhi has charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Gideons, Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Conway, Ark., or to the Epps Baptist Church in Epps, La.

Melvin E. Redmond Sr.

Melvin E. Redmond Sr. died Thursday, Oct. 13, 2005, at River Region Medical Center in Vicksburg. He was 70.

Mr. Redmond was born in Red Lick. He was a lifelong resident of Vicksburg. He was a veteran of the Army and attended Chicago Tech and Alcorn State University.

Mr. Redmond was elected North Ward alderman for the City of Vicksburg in 1977 and held that position until 1993. He also had been employed with White’s Store, as Warren County deputy tax assessor and later with the Isle of Capri Casino.

He was a member of Tyner-Ford Post No. 213. He was a member of Mount Carmel Ministries.

Mr. Redmond was preceded in death by his wife, Beulah Redmond; his mother and stepfather, Sadie L. Williams and Sammie Williams; and his father, Bilbo Clark Sr.

Survivors include one son, Melvin E. Redmond Jr. of Slidell; three daughters, Elizabeth Y. Redmond of Vicksburg, Sadie B. Redmond of San Leandro, Calif., and Cassandra R. Holmes of Hutto, Texas; five grandchildren; four sisters, Mary S. Gilmore and Daisy Gilmore, both of Port Gibson, Ruby Odom of Fayette and Judith Thomas of Jackson; three brothers, Sam Clark of Vicksburg, Bilbo Clark Jr. of Richfield, Minn., and Charlie M. Thomas of Jackson; and other friends and relatives including Deidra Clark, Maya Rollins-Williams and Paula Grandberry-Clark.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Vicksburg City Auditorium with the Rev. Mitchell Dent officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon until 7 p.m. Friday at Lakeview Funeral Home and from 9 a.m. Saturday until the hour of service at the auditorium.

Clifton James Richardson Jr.

EDWARDS – Services for Clifton James Richardson Jr. will be at noon Sunday at St. Paul M.B. Church in Edwards. Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Lakeview Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. Sunday until the hour of service at the church.

Mr. Richardson died Monday, Oct. 17, 2005, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. He was 34.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Earnestine Richardson.

Survivors include his father, Clifton Richardson Sr. of Biloxi; four sisters, Lawander Richardson of Jackson, Stacey Richardson of Edwards, LaToya Jackson and Shamekia Richardson, both of Biloxi, and Savannah Parks of Gulfport; four brothers, James Richardson and William Richardson, both of Biloxi, Tyrone Thompson of Vicksburg and Jody Parks of Gulfport; his grandmothers, Maxcine Graham of Biloxi and ReElla Turner of Edwards; and other relatives including Leroy Richardson and Lametra Richardson, both of Jackson.

Mary Ollie Sims

Services for Mary Ollie Sims will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Oak Chapel M.B. Church in Bovina with the Rev. Dellie C. Robinson officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Lakeview Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 1 until 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Sims died Thursday, Oct. 13, 2005, at River Region Medical Center in Vicksburg. She was 85.

She was a mother of Oak Chapel M.B. Church in Bovina.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Sims Sr.; one son, Willie Sims Jr.; and one daughter, Willie Mae Rafes.

Survivors include her son, Dave Sims of Miami; six daughters, Margie Whitfield of St. Louis, Mae Ollie Sims, Gennie Sims, Jessie Green, Nora Cornelius and Joyce Ann Williams, all of Vicksburg; one brother, Henry Warner of Vicksburg; and other relatives and friends.

Chenara Young

Services for Chenara Young will be at noon Saturday at Lakeview Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 until 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. The family will be present from 6 until 7.

Ms. Young died Friday, Oct. 14, 2005, at The Vicksburg Apartments in Vicksburg. She was 43.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Juanita Young.

Survivors include her father, Tom Carter Jr. of Vicksburg; one son, Leon Felix Jr. of Vicksburg; two sisters, Gloria Young Sampson of Lithonia, Ga., and Lakisha Young of Atlanta; two brothers, Robert James Young Jr. of Greenville, S.C., and Donnell Young of Hampton, Ga.; and other relatives and friends including Leon Felix Sr. of Vicksburg.
