Lavern O. Brewer

Lavern O. Brewer died Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2005, at Covenant Health and Rehab of Vicksburg. She was 66.

A homemaker, Mrs. Brewer was a native of Booneville, Mo., and lived most of her life in Vicksburg. She was a member of New Vision Worship Center.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Brewer Sr.; two brothers; two grandsons; and a stepson.

She is survived by four sons, Sando Newell and Walter Brewer Jr., both of Vicksburg, Alonzo Newell Jr. of Byram and Terrance Brewer of White Lake, Mich.; seven daughters, Rita Plumley, Teresa Kackley and Stacy Wester, all of Dardanelle, Ark., Thelesa Farmer and Robbie Whitehead, both of Vicksburg, Tammy Morris of Vanderbilt, Mich., and Debra Kinley of Tennessee; two stepdaughters, Sherry Stewart of Detroit and Sandra Kimball of Pontotoc; a sister, Ellen Burton of Liberty, Mo.; 38 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Glenwood Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Shavis Roop, Kevin VanWarmer Jr., Joseph Newell, Randy Webster, Michael Bufkin and James Kackley Sr.

Douglas Turner Howard

PORT GIBSON – Douglas Turner Howard died Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2005, at St. Catherine’s Village in Madison. He was 93.

Born in Carpenter, Mr. Howard spent most of his life in Claiborne County. He was a graduate of Chamberlain-Hunt Academy and Copiah-Lincoln Community College. He served as office manager for 26 years for the Southwest Electric Association, retiring in 1982.

He was a past president of the Port Gibson Lions Club and was a member of Lake Claiborne Inc. He served on the board of Mississippi Southern Bank.

Mr. Howard was preceded in death by his wife, Jonnel Smith Howard.

Survivors include two sons, Douglas Turner Howard Jr. of Silver Spring, Md., and Michael Howard of Madison; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Glenwood Funeral Home in Port Gibson with the Rev. David Harrison officiating. Burial will follow at Wintergreen Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the funeral home Friday from 10 a.m. until the service.

Michael Hynum

PATTISON – Michael Hynum died Friday, Oct. 29, 2005, at Claiborne County Hospital in Port Gibson. He was 21.

A resident of Pattison, Mr. Hynum was a member of Mount Burner Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his father, Eddie Smith, and his grandparents, Robert and Lena McNair.

He is survived by his mother, Malinda Hynum of Pattison; and aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends, including Aaron Waites and Andrea Hughes.

Rollins Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Leona C. McLaurin

Leona C. McLaurin died Monday, Oct. 31, 2005, at Heritage House. She was 98.

Mrs. McLaurin was a former resident of DeKalb. She was a retired dry-goods store owner. She was a member of DeKalb United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis McLaurin; her parents, Allen Clark and Cora Cook Clark; and three sisters, Ilene Clark, Rubye Barnett and Annie Draughn.

She is survived by her son, Ray C. McLaurin and his wife, Marlene, of Vicksburg; two grandchildren, Clark McLaurin of Fort Worth, Texas, and Kristin McLaurin Little of Louisville, Colo.; and two great-grandchildren, Anderson and Henry Little of Louisville.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at DeKalb United Methodist Church with the Revs. Sam Hull and Richard Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Clark’s Chapel Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at Stephens Funeral Home in DeKalb.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Darby, Frank McRae, William R. Gully, Jim Pittman, Dick Alexander and Jimmy McDonald.

Lillie Mae Myles

Services for Lillie Mae &#8220Madear” Myles will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Zion No. 1 Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Green Chapel Cemetery in Rolling Fork.

Visitation will be from noon until 7 p.m. Friday at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home

Mrs. Myles died Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2005, at River Region Medical Center. She was 82.

Mrs. Myles was born in East Carroll Parish to Percy and Pallie Young. She was a member and usher at Shiloh Baptist Church in Rolling Fork before moving to Vicksburg, where she joined Mount Zion M.B. Church No. 1 as a member of the Mother Board.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Myles Jr.; a daughter, Wanda Faye Myles; a sister, Lula Mae Helton; a brother, Elzie Young; and three grandchildren, Robert &#8220Bobby” Myles, Timothy Griffin and Lisa Griffin.

Survivors include five sons, Bobby Lee Myles and Leonard Myles, both of Chicago, and Charles Myles, Quinton Myles and Hugh Myles III, all of Vicksburg; four daughters, Annie Myles and Bertha Ann Myles, both of Vicksburg, and Ruth Cummings and Eula Griffin, both of Chicago; one brother, Claxton Young of Houston, Texas; 40 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

Harold Everett Spencer Sr.

Services for Harold Everett Spencer Sr. will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mercy Seat M.B. Church, Highway 547 in Port Gibson.

Visitation will be from noon until 6 p.m. Friday at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home with family hour from 6 until 7.

Mr. Spencer died Sunday, Oct. 30, 2005, at University Medical Center in Jackson. He was 70.

Mr. Spencer was the son of the late Rev. E.E. Spencer and Pauline Spencer. He was retired from Alcorn State University. Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

June L. Squire

Services for June L. Squire will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Locust Grove Church with the Rev. Michael Reed officiating. Burial will follow at Locust Grove Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday at Williams Funeral Service.

Mrs. Squire died Monday, Oct. 31, 2005, at River Region Medical Center. She was 71.

Mrs. Squire retired as a cook from Maxwell’s Restaurant.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Oliver Henderson and Ella Gibson Topps; and a brother, Alfred Lee Henderson.

She is survived by two daughters, Claudia Herrington and Ida Kennedy, both of Vicksburg; two sons, Bobby Joe Squire and Joseph Squire, both of Vicksburg; one brother, Oliver Henderson Jr. of Tacoma, Wash.; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and other relatives, including members of the Burkley, Smith, Robinson, Gibson, Dotson and Hunter families.
