A Vicksburg man died Tuesday afternoon in Washington County after apparently losing control and flipping his work truck.
Charles Barnes, 41, 2604 Dot St., was traveling west from Hollandale on Mississippi 12 when he apparently ran off the right shoulder of the road near the Humphreys County line. Barnes overcompensated and crossed the highway before flipping the Ford truck into the median, said Mississippi Highway Patrol Sgt. Jimmy Thomas.
Barnes was the only person in the truck, and no other vehicles were involved, Thomas said. His body was taken to Delta Regional Medical Center.
Barnes worked for Waring Oil Co. on the port of Vicksburg and was driving a Waring truck on a delivery when the accident occurred. He had worked there as a deliveryman for two years, said co-owner Howard Waring.
Barnes “was a great employee. Everybody up here loved him,” Waring said. “Always smiling.”
Barnes’ family could not be reached this morning, but had been notified of the accident Tuesday, said Sheriff Martin Pace, who delivered the notice for the Washington County coroner.
Funeral arrangements were not available.
Waring said Barnes is survived by two daughters, including a 14-year-old who lived with him in his Dot Street apartment, and a twin brother, Chester.
