Verna Mae Goss Bishop

TALLULAH – Verna Mae Goss Bishop died Friday, Dec. 16, 2005, at her home in Tallulah. She was 90.

Mrs. Bishop was born in Lillie, La., and lived in Tallulah 70 years. She was a homemaker and member of First Baptist Church and of Lake One Home Demonstration Club.

She is survived by two sons, Malcom R. Bishop and Thomas W. Bishop both of Tallulah; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Tallulah with the Rev. John W. Rushing officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery in Tallulah under the direction of Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home.

Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the church.

Pallbearers will be Johnny Goss, David Creed, Charles Williams, Gene Cox, Bobby Arneson and Jim Tucker.

Eloise Helene Bodron

Eloise Helene Bodron died Thursday, Dec. 15, 2005, at her home. She was 82.

The daughter of the late Michael George and Waheba Ellis Bodron, Miss Bodron was a lifelong resident of Vicksburg. She had been the secretary to the chief of the Hydraulics Division of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Waterways Experiment Station until her retirement in 1984. She was a member and a past president of the Secretary’s Club, a volunteer at ParkView Regional Medical Center and a member of St. George Antiochian Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Jo Bodron, and a brother, Dr. George Michael Bodron.

She is survived by two sisters, Mabel Bodron Jerabek and her husband, Roy, of Falls Church, Va., and retired Col. Margaret M. Bodron of Annandale, Va.; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at St. George Antiochian Church with the Very Rev. John Morris, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon until 1:30 p.m. Monday at Fisher Funeral Home. Trisagion prayers will be at 1:30 at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Tim Bodron, Craig Jerabek, Doug Jerabek, Ronnie Andrews, John Farris, Jimmy Angelo, Rick Hardy and Ted Frisbee.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Russell Barnes, Dr. Abdul Bahro, Ladies of St. George, employees of Gilbert Home Health, Reggie Ellis and Jimmy Thompson.

Sandra Kay Thompson Sanders Culverhouse

Sandra Kay Thompson Sanders Culverhouse died Friday, Dec. 16, 2005, at Vicksburg Convalescent Home. She was 59.

Mrs. Culverhouse was a native of Vicksburg and a member of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Clara Storey Thompson.

She is survived by a daughter, Sandy Owens of Hernando, Miss.; two sons, Ottis Sanders of Pearl, Miss., and Leroy Sanders of Vicksburg; seven grandchildren; a sister, Maryann Gaines of Vicksburg; and three nephews.

Funeral arrangements with Frank J. Fisher Funeral Home are incomplete.

Adelia Hernandez

LAKE PROVIDENCE – Adelia Hernandez died Friday, Dec. 16, 2005, at St. Joseph Nursing Home in Monroe, La. She was 78.

Mrs. Hernandez was born in Beeville, Texas, and lived in Monroe.

She was preceded in death by a son, Oscar Hernandez; parents, Merced Rios and Maria Rios; and brothers, Merced Rios Jr., and Juan Rios.

She is survived by her husband, Guadalupe Hernandez, of Monroe; five sons, Jose Hernandez, Sylvester Hernandez, Israel Hernandez, Juan Hernandez and Martin Hernandez; three daughters, Conseulo Marsh, Maria Martinez and Lydia Blades; two brothers, Guadalupe Rios and Ramon Rios; one sister, Jesusita Contreras; 29 grandchildren; and 53 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until 9 p.m. Sunday at Cox Funeral Home. Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Lake Providence with Father Zacharias Prakuzhy officiating. Burial will follow at Providence Memorial Cemetery.

Florence Payne

COMPTON, Calif. – Florence Payne died Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2005, at St. Francis Hospital in Lynnwood, Calif. She was 83.

Mrs. Payne was a former resident of Mayersville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Spencer Payne Sr.; her parents, Will and Mattie Thomas; and 14 brothers and sisters.

She is survived by five sons, James Lee Thomas of Compton, Spencer Payne Jr. of Greenville, Louis Payne of Los Angeles, James Earl Payne of Vicksburg and Calvin Payne of Spokane, Wash.; three daughters, Edna Marie Lane of Vicksburg, Bobby Hall of Compton and Rosie Jean Christor of Long Beach, Calif.; one sister, Rosie Lee Payne of Greenville; 20 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Services will be at noon Wednesday at Christ Christian M.B. Church in Compton under the direction of Harrison & Ross Mortuary.

Judy Gaile Williams

DELHI – Judy Gaile Williams died Thursday, Dec. 15, 2005, at her home in El Dorado, Ark. She was 57.

Mrs. Williams was born in Delhi and had been a longtime resident of El Dorado.

She was preceded in death by her father, Pleasant McCandlish.

She is survived by her husband, Jimmy Williams of El Dorado; one son, Christopher W. Williams of Panama City Beach, Fla.; a daughter, Tracy Knowles of Athens, Ga.; her mother, Edna McCandlish Justice of Clarks, La.; three brothers, Tommy McCandlish of Calhoun, La., Duke McCandlish of Monroe, La., and Raymond McCandlish of Shreveport, La.; three sisters, Sadi Farlee of Monroe, Bonnie Wynne of South Pittsburg, Tenn., and Betty Jane Zaunbrecher of Oak Grove; and a grandchild.

Services will be at 10 a.m. today at Harmony Baptist Church near Delhi with the Revs. Bill Dillon and W.H. &#8220Buck” Curry Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Faith Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home in Delhi.

Visitation will be at the church today from 8 a.m. until the service.

Pallbearers will be Thomas McCandlish, Brad Williams, Gordon McCoy, Stanley McCandlish, Jason Spillers and Wendell Robbins.
