VHS coach Kevin Manton wasn’t too disturbed about the loss which saw both teams battle an annoying south wind.

&#8220I was pleased with how our girls doubles team played. They did what they could,” Manton said. &#8220The wind was real tough out here.

&#8220We just need to work on becoming more consistent. I’d like to see us get better at our serves and returning serves.”

The Madison pair of Ashley Evans and Molly Barlow did just that in the third set. They were able to get a handful of big points on service returns at the net to beat Vicksburg’s Catherine Figueroa and Grace Ga-as.

The Gator girls won the first set on a tiebreaker, 7-6. Evans and Barlow roared back, splitting the match with a 6-1 second set. They were able to break Figueroa’s serve to take a 5-2 lead in the third and went on to win 6-2.

&#8220We’ve done well this year, our only match loss was to St. Andrews,” said Madison Central coach Linda Logan.

Vicksburg boys singles player Jordan Henry, cruised with a 6-0, 6-0 win over MC’s Jacob Womack.

The Gators’ other win came in boys doubles, with Jordan McBride and Willie Brown downing Jess King and T.J. Mallett 6-1, 6-3.

Madison got its first point in girls singles, where Hallie Cook defeated Christine Figueroa 6-3, 6-4. The Jaguars’ mixed team of Brent Chancellor and Savanah Zachary also won, beating Vicksburg’s Ven Ga-as and Heather Baker 6-0, 6-1.

In junior varsity action, Vicksburg got wins from the boys doubles team of Coleman Morrison and Eric Holland, along with Ryan Fisher and Raymond Perrier.

Catherdal 3, St. Al 2.

Defending team champ Natchez Cathedral got wins in boys and girls doubles to edge St. Al at Halls Ferry Park Thursday.

The Flashes (4-2) were hoping to get some early confidence against Cathedral but their rivals took both doubles matches in straight sets.

St. Al’s wins came in mixed doubles where defending Class 1A champs Bonney Neill and Jeremy White won 6-3, 6-1.

Matthew Jenkins won his singles match over Chase Caldwell 6-4, 6-1.

Cathedral came back, getting wins from the boys doubles team of Matt Goss and Austin Cardenaux over St. Al’s Chris Guizerix and Hardy Farris 6-1, 6-3; and in girls singles where Davis Beard beat Lauren Fordice 6-1, 6-0.
